Job description

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct Instructor (Corrections) position in the Adult Education department in the Academic & Student Affairs division. This position is located at the Metro Re-Entry Facility just south-east of Downtown Atlanta.

Under general supervision of the Adult Education program coordinator, the Adjunct Corrections instructor provides instruction to students. This is a part-time position and it requires a passion, demonstrated by experience, for effective teaching and advisement of diverse students plus excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to the college's mission.

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

- Identify student goals based on individual pre/post assessments.

- Teach Adult Education classes that consist of reading, math, science, social studies and/or language arts skills.

- Deliver effective Adult Education standard-based instruction, utilizing CCRS and online resources including digital literacy and soft skills.

- Plan, develop and implement lesson plans that require use of higher or thinking skills and content knowledge.

- Devise Student Learning Plans based on TABE assessments and GED/HiSET results for each student.

- Evaluate and document students' ongoing progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives.

- Submit student attendance daily.

- Monitor student/class data weekly.

- Proctor and/or schedule students for pas-testing.

- Promote Adult Education programs to public and private organizations through the Service Delivery Areas (SDAs) of the college.

- Participate in EAGLE competition.

- Prepare and maintain are required documentation and administrative reports.

- Plan, organize and participate in staff development and Adult Education conferences.

- Maintain a secure classroom and learning environment, practice classroom management.

- Demonstrate teamwork, customer service and organizational commitment.

- Assist with recruitment and retention and related activities; and

- Perform additional duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a closely related field.

- One (1) or more years of teaching experience.

- Must be able to instruct students and handle administrative responsibilities related to the position.

- Must be energetic, highly motivated, self-directed, open to new ideas and customer focused.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications :

Preference may be given to candidates, who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:

- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Education or a closely related field.

- Two (2) or more years of teaching experience.

- Experience teaching in Adult Education and/or Corrections.

- Ability to teach all four subjects (Reading/language, Math, Science, Social Studies).

- Computer skills and knowledge of software and internet use.

- Experience developing student learning plans and instructional lesson plans.
