Position Summary:  Maintenance Pipefitter/Mechanic to work within the Maintenance Department to repair, maintain, install, modify, troubleshoot and perform preventive and predictive maintenance on all mechanical systems and related equipment.

McKinley Paper's maintenance departments operates from two shop – E&I and Mechanical – while recognizing individual’s skills and abilities for specific work. The maintenance shops work closely together and are aided by operating crews as appropriate. USW and its Local 2-144 represents production and maintenance employees.

REQUIREMENT: YOU MUST HOLD A JOURNEYMAN'S CARD

SCHEDULE: M-F 7:00 am – 3:00 pm + Overtime, Weekends, Holidays as required. Shift work may be required as a Journeyman Mechanic.

TIME OFF/VACATION: Individuals hired will be granted up to eight (8) years of service credit, based on their experience within the trade, for the purposes of vacation accrual only, which grants them up to three (3) weeks of vacation upon hire.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applicant will maintain a high level of safety awareness and complies with all company safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures including Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space, PPE, Hot Work, Spill Prevention and Universal Waste.
  • Receives, interprets and completes work orders (including paperwork) as part of an effective daily supervisor's work schedule.
  • Installs, assembles, disassembles, dismantles, constructs, repairs, replaces, aligns and maintains machinery and equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, agitators, pulpers, air compressors, conveyors, tanks, fans, blowers, dust collectors, choppers, filters, screens, save-alls, cranes, robots, turbines, boilers, presses, clarifiers, machine rolls, dryers, guides, stretches, doctors and other paper machine, coating or finishing equipment. Lays out, installs and repairs all pipe lines, supports and related equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic, compressed air, drying, vacuum, steam, water, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, gas, chemicals, fire suppression, paper stock and other industrial production and processing systems.
  • Works with mechanical components including but not limited to: bearings, seals, housings, shafts, brakes, clutches, sheaves, pulleys, cables, belts, chains, sprockets, couplings, gears, knives, mechanical seals and rope system components. Repair/replace related connected equipment (valves, instrumentation, cylinders, actuators, guides, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, certain types of process pumps, hydraulic motors, pneumatic motors, rotary joints, steam & condensate joints, showers, spray nozzles, etc.)
  • Determines and uses the proper type of tools and equipment needed to do a job such as drills, drill presses, presses, jacks, impact wrenches, air wrenches, torque wrenches, pullers, hammers, grinders, saws, shaft alignment devices, leveling devices, measurement devices, belt alignment devices, hoists, chain falls, other rigging devices, torches for heating & cutting, welders & welding (as qualified) as well as other hand and power tools.
  • Troubleshoots machine mechanical problems, evaluates options and implements solutions.
  • Understands and interprets mechanical drawings and prints.
  • Identifies mechanical hardware (fasteners, etc.) and hand tools, precision measuring instruments, part layouts, threading w/ taps and dies and files.
  • Plans, lays out, installs machines and equipment utilizing prints, alignment, rigging and hoisting equipment. Performs routine preventive maintenance tasks including fire system inspections and repairs.
  • Understands properties, applications, maintenance and repair of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Understands and utilizes mathematical fractions, decimals, basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Studies specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and sequences of equipment assembly.
  • Conducts preventive, predictive, visual, vibration analysis (as qualified), lubrication and diagnostics maintenance tasks to provide accurate information and knowledge to support the maintenance reliability program for equipment and systems.
  • Correctly selects and applies adhesives, sealants, various other cleaning materials and lubricants (including industrial greases and oils).
  • Performs necessary welding using gas or electric equipment.
  • Inspects and operates equipment needed to perform job functions such as forklifts, scissors and high lifts, personnel carriers, cranes, hoists and rigging.
  • Teaches others how to perform specific tasks and how to perform machine equipment maintenance, repair and related activities.
  • Assists in developing job aids and providing technical guidance, training and mentoring for others in department.
  • Assists engineers, supervisors, operations and other trades personnel by providing technical support to problem solving, troubleshooting, new installations and improvements and repair to new or existing systems.
  • Work daily overtime during emergencies as well as planned/unplanned work for weekends and holidays as required, and shift work when needed, possibly as part of training/
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality in daily activities and long-term projects.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain and upgrade technical knowledge through on the job and technical training including computers and software. Some training may be after normal work hours.

Skill development to include machining, vehicle maintenance, HVAC and lubrication.

Pay: $31.40 - $38.00 per hour
