Antioch University and the Environmental Studies Department

Founded in 1853, Antioch University emphasizes learner-centered education to provide students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance social, economic, and environmental justice. We use a distinctive graduate education pedagogy that mixes academic rigor with experiential learning and social engagement. Antioch University New England (AUNE), is one of Antioch University's five regional campuses that draws and serves Environmental Studies students from across the country and globe. AUNE's campus is located in the beautiful Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire, which offers numerous cultural, recreational and educational opportunities. We are less than 100 miles from Boston, MA and Hartford, CT, and a train ride from New York City.

The Environmental Studies Department, with faculty on the east and west coasts, educates visionary, effective leaders in a collaborative interdisciplinary setting, founded on academic excellence and principles of justice and sustainability. Our department is aware of the long and well-documented history of the ways in which the environmental movement, particularly in the United States, has oppressed cultures, peoples and voices, which has prevented some groups from fully participating and contributing to environmental issues. And environmental problems disproportionately impact historically marginalized groups-including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, Indigenous communities, women and LGBTQIA+ people. We are committed to centering these communities in our work and scholarship. We welcome applications from people whose lived experiences reflect the environmental movement's historical marginalization of varied identities, cultures and communities.

AUNE's Environmental Studies Department is home to a range of innovative faculty- and student-led research and public engagement initiatives, including the Antioch Bird Club, Center for Climate Preparedness and Community Resilience, Center for Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing, Community Garden Connections for food justice, Conservation Psychology Institute, Monadnock Ecological Research & Education Project, The Institute for International Conservation, and Whole Terrain literary journal.

Voluntary Health, dental and vision plan and flexible spending account options; employer retirement plan contribution of 6% and employer paid life insurance. Short term disability; voluntary supplemental life insurance, long-term disability, accidental death/dismemberment, critical illness, and accident coverage plans; 12 days per year sick leave and carry-over up to 65 days; 15 paid holidays; tuition remission for employees and dependents at Antioch University campuses; and employee paid options with AFLAC, LegalShield, and Liberty Mutual.
