LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN
SALARY RANGE: $99,424.00 - $146,286.40
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to routinely assist the Senior Director in planning and coordinating operations of Oak Ridge Institution of Science and Education (ORISE)-Health Studies. As a member of the ORISE Health Studies (HS) management team, this position contributes to program strategy, financial reporting, and personnel management. As a primary responsibility, this position provides oversight for contractor assurance, quality, and risk initiatives, serving as the ORISE-HS representative on related organizational teams within ORISE and ORAU. The position also provides technical oversight, including project control, for interdisciplinary projects in the areas of occupational exposure and worker health.
Operations Support :
- Assists the Senior Director in planning and coordinating quality and administrative aspects of ORISE-HS operations, including:
- Quality and risk initiatives
- Required reporting
- Technical contact to support departments
- Other efforts towards maximizing program and project efficiency.
Technical Oversight and Project Control:
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for project deliverables and resources within budgetary and quality standards for ORISE worker health projects assigned.
Personnel Management:
- Organizes and plans staff work activities and provides oversight to ensure that projects meet customer requirements and agreed upon deliverables.
- Finding, hiring, developing, empowering, and retaining peak performers.
Financial Planning and Reporting :
- Contributes to the planning, tracking, and reporting of program and project-level budgets.
- Ensures compliance with all policies/procedures and recommends budgetary efficiencies to the Senior Director for decision-making and planning.
Customer Relationship Management and Development :
- Works collaboratively with the Senior Director, establishes, maintains, and expands customer relationships as it supports ORISE-Health Studies’ work scope.
- Supports, as appropriate, broader ORAU research, development, and thought leadership efforts to expand capabilities and technical offerings.
Strategic Planning:
- Assists the Senior Director in developing and implementing ORISE-HS strategic vision and goals.
- Contributes to strategic planning efforts and teams for ORISE and ORAU.
Bachelor's degree in business, scientific, technical or related field and 6-10 years of job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements. Higher level education above minimum may count for additional experience.
- Master of Science or other graduate degree in health sciences or business analytics related fields, including Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration, is strongly preferred.
- Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Data Science, or Statistics preferred.
- Experience in leading/managing a team to complete work on time and within budget.
- Ability to effectively lead group work through team building, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Experience managing multiple and changing priorities and competing demands for self and direct reports, with limited to no guidance.
- Project management experience is required to develop and implement operational plans, staffing plans, and prepare activities to meet requirements of different projects and multiple sponsors.
- Experience with strategic planning, financial management, human resource management, quality management, and risk management is preferred.
- Experience with customer interaction, outreach, and engagement.
- Experience in managing health data programs or health research studies is preferred.
- Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills, including scientific, peer-reviewed publications and presentations is preferred.
- Minimal travel per year is required.
Additional relevant preferred experience includes:
- Ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals from different scientific disciplines.
- Ability and willingness to engage in business development activities such as supporting proposals, identifying potential clients and opportunities, and developing outreach efforts.
- Ability to use commercially available and custom software programs for daily business communications, presentations, data analysis, report preparation, and other functions.
- Knowledge in applied health science fields, such as biostatistics and epidemiology concepts, principles, and study design.
- Knowledge in worker health/occupational epidemiology, especially as it pertains to the Department of Energy complex.
- Experience in human subjects protection principles for research.
*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
