Job description

We are looking for an Advanced Office Clerk to cover a full-time position at Barksdale AFB, LA. (Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Arrange and schedules medical appointments in Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS/AHLTA) or MHS GENESIS and determines patient eligibility for services and primary care, specialty, and subspecialty medical care.
- Support PCM by name processing for appointment and appropriate access to care timeframes during allocation of standard appointment types.
- Serve as first point of contact and provides information regarding facility policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, and staff. Monitors and communicates delays in scheduled appointments to the appropriate staff and patients.
- Collect, correct, and update patient information in applicable databases during each patient interaction.
- Serve as a medical records technician to process and maintain inpatient, outpatient or ambulatory procedure unit medical records.
- Responsible for the clerical duties inherent in the in-processing, care, and out-processing of patients and guests, including the mailing of documents and typing of routine correspondence and other reports.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least one year in medical office scheduling, in an office setting, or at least one year in relevant experience or specialized Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator certification required.
- Must have knowledge of a variety of clinical and office automation systems, such as Ambulatory Data System (ADS); Composite Health Care System (CHCS); Defense Manpower Human Resource System Information (DMHRSi), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Medical Application and Process Solutions (MAPS), Patient Appointment System (PAS), Clinical Information System (CIS), Vocera Integrated Communication System, and the Army Medicine Secure Messaging System (ASMS), Microsoft Office, telephone, duplicating equipment, word processing equipment, computers, etc.
- Ability to type a minimum of 50 WPM
- Knowledge of CHCS or Genesis.
- General knowledge of basic medical terminology, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards; Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulatory guidance.
- General medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Highly desired: reliable transportation to commute back and forth to work at base.
