Job Summary
This position works under limited supervision and manages the clinical therapy operations within the Home Health Department at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Responsibilities of this position include managing staff, supporting clinical initiatives, develops department budgets, communicating with patients, and advocates for evidence-based practice to provide optimal patient care.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree and a minimum of Three (5) years experience in field of Physical, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Therapy, with two (2) years in Home Health experience preferred.
- Current Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy licensure in State of Texas.
Job Duties
- Supervises and evaluates provision of patient care by personnel assigned to unit. Serves as role model to staff and provides direct patient care and/or functions in “charge” position when needed. Adheres and facilitates adherence by personnel to policies and procedures, code of conduct, and standards of practice. Reviews schedule and staffing plan to ensure adequate coverage of patient care needs. Utilizes staffing guidelines and employs most cost-effective option in providing proper patient care. Monitors departmental productivity by comparing actual to budgeted activities, monitoring census and patient acuity to determine and maintain optimal levels of productivity. Interviews and makes final hiring decisions. Provides coaching and counseling of staff. Achieves and maintains low vacancy and turnover rates. Ensures completion of annual performance reviews and orientation evaluations. Conducts staff meetings and coordinates special projects. Utilizes resources and maintains operations within budget. Prepares variance reports to explain budget deviations and assists with future budgeting as requested. Identifies and reports efficiency or cost saving ideas. Completes payroll editing at end of payroll cycle and maintains attendance records. Generates or supervises generation of event reports. Provides follow-up and submits to Director of Patient Care Services. Monitors for trends and intervenes when necessary. Participates in identification and resolution of physician, patient, and/or family complaints. Follows Patient Complaint Management Process and notifies Director of Patient Care Services and Risk Management. Prepares monthly analysis of quality assurance activities and data collection. Evaluates reporting methods to ensure quality care and reporting of services. Maintains departmental records as required by law and organization. Monitors compliance and completes required reports in timely manner. Implements and supports environment of evidenced based patient care. Presents research and supports staff to same. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

- Work is performed primarily in the home health office.
