Position Summary
The purpose of this Development Engineer/Laboratory Support is to support the teaching and research mission of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, which has heavy laboratory experience in all disciplines. This involves setting up, calibrating, fabricating, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment for courses and research; labs and spaces must be kept organized and tidy. Each of the program areas in CEE (environmental, water resources, transportation, structural and geotechnical) require technician support for specialized laboratory equipment used for instruction and research experiments.
The successful candidate will be able to work and collaborate with department members, including faculty, staff, and students to design, develop, and fabricate new teaching laboratory capabilities, research tests, and educational demonstrations.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
- one year of experience designing, fabricating, testing, modifying, and maintaining new, experimental electronic equipment, instruments, and systems in an instrument laboratory; OR
- a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent field.

The successful applicant will have a strong combination of (or will possess all of) the skills, experience, and/or qualifications stated in this section. You may also be asked to perform a skills test in an interview situation. This is an in-person position and will not likely include remote work.
● Excellent computer skills, including electronic and hydraulic equipment interfacing;
● Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills;
● Proficient in maintaining, using, and cleaning machine shop equipment;
● Demonstrated organizational skills
● Ability to solve problems and work towards solutions in a dynamic environment.

Work Days/Hours M-F, 9 am-5 pm (though some labs run until 6 pm). 40 hours/week.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The minimum monthly pay will be $24.83/hour and the maximum monthly pay will be $28.59/hour. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. PSU's excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
