We are searching for a motivated & experienced Yard Jockey
Utilizing the Ottowa or tractor, moves trailers, as directed by the Shipping and Receiving foremen. Places trailers into assigned doors, ensuring the trailer doors are open, the refrigeration unit is running and holding temperature, and the trailer is secured according to the dock lock procedures. When not moving trailers works in assigned facility providing warehouse support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Locates empty trailers to place into bay doors, or locates specific trailers and places them into assigned doors (in multiple building locations), and makes sure that all trailer moves are recorded on the Tractor Issuing Form.
- Prior to placing the trailer into the bay door, open doors, starts the refrigeration unit and verifies it is set at -10°. In some instances, secures the trailer according to the dock lock procedure.
- Closes trailer doors after removing trailers from the bay door. If loaded, makes sure trailer is still running/set at -10°, and trailer doors are secured with WBP lock or trailer seal, and such is recorded on the Trailer Security Log Sheet. If trailer is empty, makes sure refrigeration unit is turned off.
- Places trailers on the storage line when shipping/receiving is done with them. In the event of a carrier trailer (dropping a box) entering the yard, the Yard Jockey will have the driver drop his trailer in an open area, and the Jockey will back this carrier trailer into the storage line. In the event that a carrier is here to pickup their trailer, the Yard Jockey will pull the trailer from the storage line, so that the carrier can hook up to it.
- Performs shuttle moves between warehouses, moving raw materials, finished goods and trailers, as required by the operation.
- Completes Trailer Inspection Reports and sweeps interiors of empty WBP trailers.
- Sorts/collects exchanged pallets in yard, and loads them onto return pallet trailers.
- Utilizes pallet jacks, forklifts and other equipment as trained to select orders, perform put-away, perform receiving and provide production with required ingredients. Completes appropriate paperwork to support assignments.
- Attends company scheduled meetings when applicable (i.e., safety meetings, production meetings, department meetings.).
- Informs supervision of any problems or complications that may arise
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
- Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
- Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. Must follow all Company Safety policies, as well as all GMP regulations and all lock-out/tag-out requirements according to OSHA requirements.
- As part of your supervisory responsibility and as a back-up, supervisors must be able to do your work in ways that ensure safe food. You must also be aware of issues associated with food safety and safe food handling practices that are relevant to your job. Formal training is not required, but in house Food Safety Training conducted by a qualified staff member is mandatory. You must know how to recognize, prevent and alleviate food safety hazards. This position requires good working knowledge of the SQF code
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid CDL-A License.
