Medical Assistant - Full-time

JRI's Program RISE is a multi-service program serving the MetroWest area. RISE offers free confidential HIV counseling, testing and referrals, STI and Hepatitis testing, HIV Case Management, Housing Search & Advocacy, Peer Support Services, LGBT services, Overdose Prevention and Education, Needle Exchange, community education programs on HIV, STIs, viral Hepatitis, harm reduction, and LGBTQ cultural competency. What We Need:
The Medical Assistant is a full-time clinical staff position and reports directly to the Program Manager of Infectious Diseases and Prevention at JRI Health with assistance from the Program Director and nursing staff. This position requires full-time, on-site presence.
- Identify potential clients in need of PrEP, STI, TB, and Viral Hepatitis-C navigation services. Provide support to individuals who are interested in initiating PrEP/nPEP, Viral Hepatitis-C, STI and TB treatment and those already in care at Program RISE. Complete screenings to identify readiness for treatment and other barriers to care. Provide counseling and linkage to care around treatment and work closely with the Nurse Practitioner on follow-up and retention. Assess benefits/insurance and help clients enroll in drug assistance programs and insurance coverage. Oversee processing of applications to insurance programs and refer appropriately into other programs as needed.
- Perform venipunctures, process creatinine tests, and document results for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. Follow all CLIA and OSHA requirements and regulations. Work closely with the Program Manager to maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and learning resources; ensuring compliance with OSHA standards of safety rules and regulations; working with staff in skills training and practice, demonstration, simulation and remediation.
- Provide HIV, STI, TB and Viral Hepatitis testing and counseling, including phlebotomy, CTR (Counseling, Testing and Referral) services according to the guidelines set by CDC and MDPH. Provide short term health navigation, linkage to care, supported referrals, and connection with JRI Health continuum of HIV prevention and housing services, as well as outside services.
- Maintain productive relationships with partner agencies that provide services to priority populations in the community. Expand outreach and in-reach activities to diverse communities at risk of HIV acquisition.
- Remain current and informed regarding issues of HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, PrEP/nPEP. Viral Hepatitis, LGBTQIA+ issues, substance use, and other communicable diseases.
- Any other task as requested by the Program Manager of Infectious Disease and Prevention Services and the Director of Program RISE.
- Work collaboratively with program staff.
What You Have:
- General knowledge of health promotion and HIV, STI, TB and Viral Hepatitis prevention strategies - training available in-house for motivated employee;
- Cultural sensitivity, responsiveness and knowledge of diverse populations, including Black, Hispanic, LGBTQIA+ individuals;
- Ability to provide services using a trauma-informed, harm reduction, and stages of change approach;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide excellent service to clients and maintain relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Framingham location;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including emails and other written materials;
- Strong sense of professionalism, boundaries, and ethics;
- Background Check: Acceptable CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), OIG background check, driving record;
- Phlebotomy experience preferred, but will train;
- Someone who identifies as BIPOC LGBTQ+ is strongly encouraged;
- Bi/multilingual in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred;
- Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred or High School/GED plus relevant experience;
- Experience navigating healthcare specific to trans and gender non-conforming (TGNC); communities, men who have sex with men (MSM) and people who inject drugs (PWID).
