Construction Materials Staff Engineer

S&ME is seeking an individual to join our Construction Services team in Greensboro, NC as a Construction Materials Staff Engineer and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.

What You Will Do:

As a Construction Materials Staff Engineer , you play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects by assessing and verifying the properties and quality of materials used in construction. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, performing engineering calculations/design, preparation of proposals and reports, and project and client support.

• Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites
• Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects
• Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management system
• Calibrating field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
• Perform Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC)
• Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients

Who You Are:

• You have a bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field
• You have 0-2 years of professional experience
• You have basic working knowledge of construction plans and specifications
• You have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, with the ability to learn commercial software applications
• You are willingness to obtain International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough and uneven terrain
• Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
• Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
