Position Summary
- Performs a variety of routine and more specialized breast imaging procedures, requiring independent judgment and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Assists the Breast Imaging Manager in directing the work force. Assists in maintaining the Quality Assurance program and adhering to regulatory guidelines.
- Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
- Understands and adheres to the Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Coordinates resources and staff to ensure efficient, safe, and quality patient care activity.
- Communicates and ensures compliance with institutional/departmental policies and procedures, quality initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
- Manages day to day activities and workflow for front desk, Mammography, Breast MRI, and Ultrasound staff in collaboration with the Breast Imaging Manager.
- Manages staff schedules and collaborates with direct reports to ensure all modalities have proper staff coverage across all shifts.
- Prioritizes overall activities and assigns/delegates work to meet workload requirements; anticipates impact of special/emergency requests and needs and implements plans to meet daily expectations.
- Works with manager on onboarding of new staff, timekeeping, training, and development.
- Performs mid-year and annual reviews on direct reports.
- Provides mentoring and coaching to direct reports and escalates issues to leadership appropriately.
- Clearly communicate, implement, audit, and educate staff on new processes in the department.
- Collaborates with physicians and nurses to ensure proper scheduling of breast imaging procedures and a smooth patient flow. Assists with same day add-ons and directly handles other patient related matters.
- Rounds on patients to ensure wait times are within normal timeframes.
- Anticipates patient concerns and provides reassurance through patient education.
- Performs service recovery to address patient complaints and concerns.
- Collaborates with departmental leaders on patient satisfaction initiatives.
- Audits positioning and productivity of staff to sustain high quality of imaging.
- Performs all breast imaging procedures including advanced positioning techniques.
- Responsible for radiation protection and immobilization of patients per safety standards.
- Assists physicians during Interventional Breast Biopsy procedures.
- Performs quality control check of imaging equipment per departmental policies and procedures.
- Adheres to and maintains DOH, JCAHO, MQSA, and ACR standards as outlined by these governing bodies.
- Assists with ACR equipment accreditation submissions.
- Performs all needed QC and maintains QC logs for all equipment.
- Ensures all downtime procedures are followed concerning computer systems.
- Demonstrates good communication skills and displays an empathetic, enthusiastic, and positive attitude.
- Maintains a professional image and always follows hospital and departmental dress code.
- Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- The Radiologic Technologist must be graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital base program. NYS DOH license is required, ARRT(R)(M). Previous lead or supervisory experience is required.
- Advanced ARRT Certification preferred; CT, MRI, ARDMS or NMTCB.
- Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period.
- BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- Radiation dose pledge completed for both Image Wisely/Image Gently through the American College of Radiology (ACR), either during the orientation period or before end of the probationary period.
- Demonstration of strong leadership qualities and exceptional interpersonal skills required.

- Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the department to access patients and paperwork.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- The person in this position frequently communicates with patients who have questions about their bills/financial obligations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be able to observe and inspect employees and patients in the department.
- Frequently move and position patients for exams
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
