The VDC Manager will champion our digital transformation efforts in infrastructure construction, leading the integration of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) methodologies into our projects. This role is instrumental in leveraging cutting-edge digital tools and processes to optimize design, enhance coordination, and streamline construction, ensuring project excellence from conception to completion. This role blends construction expertise with innovative digital solutions, ensuring efficiency, precision, and sustainability in every project.
- Lead the incorporation of VDC/BIM methodologies into our infrastructure projects, facilitating a shift from conventional approaches to advanced digital methods.
- Collaborate closely with field construction units, ascertaining the real-world applicability, accuracy, and utility of VDC models and simulations.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize comprehensive 3D models for infrastructure projects, using these for simulations, design validation, constructability reviews, and sequencing.
- Coordinates model development for quantify take-offs to support estimating, operations, and sustainability.
- Set, refine, and uphold VDC/BIM standards, guaranteeing uniformity, efficiency, and quality in our projects.
- Proactively use VDC tools to identify design and construction clashes, collaborating with relevant teams to resolve these issues in the design phase and prevent on-site complications.
- Utilize VDC models to anticipate potential project risks, strategizing with teams to develop mitigation plans and ensure project continuity.
- Designate and monitor KPIs for VDC endeavors, generating reports that showcase the tangible advantages, operational efficiencies, and returns on investment.
- Effectively relay the merits, advancements, and outcomes of VDC efforts to internal stakeholders and external clients, engendering confidence and engagement at every tier.
- Leads model hand-off and collaborates with owners to develop models for digital twin usage.
- Collaborates with business development and preconstruction teams to develop 3D visualization and virtualization renderings, walkthroughs, simulations, prepares narratives for the proposals as the subject matter expert on digital build use cases and delivery.
- Keep a pulse on emerging VDC/BIM technologies, tools, and methodologies, assessing their potential value to our projects and overseeing their integration when deemed beneficial.
- Lead workshops, training sessions, and seminars to elevate the VDC/BIM capabilities of internal teams, ensuring they are up-to-date with the latest tools and best practices
- Maintains knowledge of Company’s values and strategic plan.
- Performs additional assignments per management’s direction.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
- 10+ years’ experience working in the digital build environment in the construction industry required.
- Proven track record of leading teams, coordinating with diverse stakeholders, and driving digital transformation initiatives in a construction environment.
- Experience in fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integration of VDC processes across various project stages.
- Experience working with Procore, Primavera P6, AutoCAD and Bluebeam required.
- Recognized certifications in VDC, BIM, or relevant software tools are desirable.
- Demonstrable expertise in major VDC/BIM software platforms, including but not limited to Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, and BIM 360.
- Strong written and verbal communication capabilities, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a varied audience, from on-site teams to executive stakeholders.
- A history of applying analytical and critical-thinking skills to address challenges, especially those related to integrating technology and construction processes.
- In-depth understanding of the construction industry encompassing lifecycle phases, methodologies, and best practices.
- Familiarity with core project management concepts, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
- Proficiency in creating, managing, and interpreting detailed 3D models for diverse infrastructure projects.
- Strong analytical skills to assess complex data sets, identify potential challenges, and derive actionable insights.
- Ability to liaise with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring optimal outcomes for the project.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies, processes, and project requirements, ensuring continuous alignment with industry advancements.
- Able to lead scan to BIM development, sourcing, workflows, and technologies.
- Able to identify and execute the appropriate use of digital field technologies such as laser scanning, drones, robotics, total stations, 360 imageries are utilized to support design and construction workflows.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skill in technical writing for efficient and concise document control and presentations to all levels of the business.
- Strong knowledge of construction engineering principles and regulatory codes required.
- Developed management and scheduling abilities.
- Proven ability to influence with or without authority for the betterment of the project construction or cost controls.
- Proven knowledge of design drawings and strong ability to interpret the construction story told by what is on or missing from a design plan.
- Ability to identify constructability, cost or schedule risks from alternative design drawings required.
- Strong multi-tasking and time management skills required.
