Responsibilities Job Summary / Purpose
The Program Coordinator, Continuing Education reports under the System VP, Clinical Education and Professional Development and directly to the System Manager for Nursing Professional Development. This role brings subject matter knowledge and expertise in clinical education in healthcare and provides broad program coordination and project leadership to continuing education activities offered to nursing and other clinical (non-provider) staff. The position will work closely with the National Nurse Residency Program, Patient Care Services and others to coordinate all aspects of nursing/clinician continuing education offerings. This position will play a pivotal role in ensuring the professional growth and skill development of our trainees through delivery of high-quality continuing education offerings. The position requires strong project management skills, independent judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Projects will include managing the accreditation and maintenance of continuing education programs and overseeing the updating and development of education and training materials on integrated care topics. Serves as a liaison to accredited provider(s) for all CE-certified programs and conferences offered through Patient Care Services.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the quality, accessibility, and standardization of clinical professional development and nursing continuing education (CE) within the CommonSpirit Health ministry. Manages the continuing education accreditation application and renewal process for educational programs, workshops, seminars and conferences for Patient Care Services.
- Lead the coordination with subject matter experts, instructional design, instructional technology, and evaluation team members to ensure CE offerings meet the required criteria for maintaining accreditation. Ensures program materials (e.g., applications, marketing materials, onsite signage and agendas when applicable, slide presentations, etc., comply with CE guidelines.
- Monitor program effectiveness, collect feedback, and make continuous improvements based on evaluations and participant satisfaction.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, industry experts, and professional associations to identify trainee development needs and align continuing education programs.
- Act as a liaison between the department and accrediting bodies or regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with continuing education requirements and maintain accreditation status.
- Promote continuing education programs through far-reaching marketing and communication strategies.
- Maintain program records per accreditation requirements.
- Create reports as needed for internal use to monitor trainee progress and completion. Create and submit reports to CE accreditors as required per accreditation agreements. Develops, implements and reports outcomes of program metrics
- Collaborates with internal and external curriculum accreditation resources and ensures identified courses are planned, delivered and evaluated according to the processes and standards outlined by the accrediting body and the sponsoring CE provider.
- Works with system, division, and facility leadership to ensure processes and structures are deployed consistently across the system to guarantee expectations for performance are established and accountability is maintained.
- Collaborates with learners in the identification and development of initial and on-going continuing education needs.
- Submits documentation in support of education to include rosters, course evaluation documents and competency validation tools.
- Permeates principles of CommonSpirit Health’s mission; nursing vision; values; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB); Patient Experience (PEX); into professional development and CE efforts.
- Ensures a consistent, principle-driven professional development and CE brand across the system.
- Builds and maintains strategic internal and external partnerships (e.g., continuing medical education (CME) offices, human resources, learning & development, national councils, State Boards of Nursing, etc.).
- Ensures a healthy multi-disciplinary (interprofessional) learning environment across the system.
Qualifications Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Education/Social Science or related field) required
- Minimum five (5) years of education/healthcare related experience, required, with at least two (2) of these years related to Adult Education or career education, preferred.
- Understanding of curriculum development, instructional design, and program management, preferably in a continuing education or professional development context, required.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse License in one of the States that CommonSpirit Health operates or a multi-state Compact License. (preferred)
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Ability to work independently in a very complex and challenging matrixed organization where deadlines and priorities change.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles, andragogical curricula development, and best practices for health care instruction.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives/projects simultaneously with minimal direct supervision, including the ability to juggle short-term and long-term deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills. Able to research topics/issues quickly and efficiently given limited guidance and direction.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently. Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to interact positively with a wide variety of people.
- Exceptional communication skills, orally and in writing.

- Works effectively with external and partner organizations, consultants and internal teams to coordinate continuing education materials and ensure adherence to compliance requirements.
- Functions independently to plan and deliver program outcomes and needs to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Has a high attention to detail. Highly proficient computer and technical skills related to this work.
- Able to work accountably and effectively as a part of a team and with diverse populations of people.
