Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Foundation (IF) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Job Description
The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and manages the organization’s Finance department providing real-time information about its fiscal activities that will assist executive management and other stakeholders in making critical operational and strategic decisions. The Controller is responsible for recording, reporting, and safeguarding the organization’s financial assets according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
The salary range for this position is
$80,000 - $95,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets. Oversee the activities of the disbursement department, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
- Oversee the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc.; and quarter and year-end payroll closing, including federal and state reports.
- Work with various departments and leadership to review contracts and amendments to ensure controls, systems and all billing aspects are set up appropriately.
- Monitor financial efficiency on a monthly basis, including real-time cash flow, A/P and A/R turnover, grant spend downs, etc.
- Manage and track restricted funds to ensure the spend down is appropriate and timely spent.
- Establish and maintain systems and internal controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data. Ensure controls are upheld by GAAP standards.
- Respond to the CFO as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate his financial reporting needs.
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Preferred Experience/ Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years relevant experience, especially in non-profit accounting and healthcare
- Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel and Bill.com
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence and reports using standard software products. Extensive experience working with Excel (and/or Google Sheets) is ideal.
- Active CPA preferred, but exceptions can be made for highly qualified candidates
