Job description

 

The Biological and Chemical Technologies Group addresses significant current and emerging national security challenges using advanced biological and chemical technologies. Capabilities within the Group include molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology; microbiome engineering; rapid DNA sequencing; bioinformatics; microfluidics; mass spectrometry; laser spectroscopy; and organic chemistry. These capabilities are applied to missions spanning chemical, biological, and explosives (CBE) detection and attribution; medical diagnostics and countermeasures; pathogen identification; point-of-care diagnostics; molecular intelligence; biosecurity; biomanufacturing, DNA forensics, and additive manufacturing.

Job Description

 

The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group is searching for a creative, motivated individual to support programmatic efforts in the areas of molecular biology and assay development. The ideal candidate will have experience not only with traditional bench biology techniques, but also familiarity in using custom hardware for assay automation and troubleshooting. The position will be primarily focused on development of nucleic acid and protein assays for diverse applications such as sensing, drug discovery/development, and biomanufacturing. We seek an individual interested in working with a diverse group composed of experts in biology, chemistry, mechanical/electrical engineering, bioengineers, and software developers to accomplish program goals. Position Requirements :

 

B.S. or B.A. in biology, or similar, with some practical experience in a wet lab performing assay development and molecular biology techniques such as PCR and immunoassay is mandatory. Requirements include familiarity with assay development protocols in addition to hands-on experience in molecular assay development. Experience with working in small interdisciplinary research teams composed of engineers and biologists is desired. Familiarity using custom hardware (such as microfluidics), assay QA/QC protocols, microbiology and tissue culture is also desired. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have excellent written and oral communication skills.
