UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a new two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana for what will be the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. It is anticipating an opening in Spring 2024.
The Crown Point care center will include:
- A micro-hospital with an eight-bed emergency department and a short-stay inpatient unit
- A comprehensive cancer center with infusion therapy as well as radiation, medical and surgical oncology
- An imaging center with MRI, CT, PET, X-ray and ultrasound capabilities
- An outpatient surgery center
- Laboratory services
- Medical offices with access to UChicago Medicine’s physicians and specialists, including those in cancer care, cardiology, digestive diseases, orthopaedics, neurosciences, pediatrics, primary care, surgical specialties, transplant care and women’s health
Job Summary:
The Emergency Department RN (ED RN) will perform primary nursing functions of assessing, planning, directing, performing and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Room to patients of all ages suffering from various types of illness or trauma that requires emergency attention.
The ED RN will serve as a professional role model by encouraging teamwork and collaborating with clinical and front office staff, administration, and other professional disciplines to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and optimal patient outcomes with the highest level of patient satisfaction.
Position Details:
- Shift : 12 hour shift (7:00pm-7:00am)
- Work Hours : Night (7:00pm-7:00am)

Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrates ability to manage care within the established standards of nursing care and practice as defined by the state of Indiana and required by hospital accrediting bodies. Initiates care to stabilize patient and assists in managing life support needs by collaborating with physician and clinical staff, demonstrating appropriate admission, discharge, and transfer procedures. Provides high quality and high satisfaction bedside care and administers treatments under the direct supervision of the physician, anticipating patient needs and responding accordingly. Accurately and concisely documents services provided within the medical record in a thorough, timely manner.
- Collects laboratory samples and performs lab testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and established policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to perform laboratory Quality Controls and Assessments, and routine daily, weekly, monthly and periodic maintenance and function according to Laboratory policy and procedures
- Participates in QAPI activities including participation in accreditation preparation and survey process and maintenance of accreditation, state, and CMS standards. Attends and participates in all applicable facility meetings, training, and development workshops, and reviews/understands all required policies and procedures
- Ensures proper supplies, appropriate medical equipment and medications are available for patient care and par levels meet patient and facility needs
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital Emergency Department.
License/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse, in good standing, licensed in the state of Indiana.
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC required
