Status: Exempt, 10-month Residential, Teaching Faculty
Position Summary
The Hill School seeks a full-time Instructor of Humanities with a start date of August 2024. The primary responsibilities of this professional will be to teach two to three sections of Humanities and one to two other academic courses in the traditionally defined humanities disciplines (English, History, Classics, Religious Studies and Philosophy) as assigned. The ideal candidate will be comfortable teaching a variety of levels in these departments, with a demonstrated effectiveness in teaching.
Working closely with the Blossom Chair of Humanities and colleagues in related departments to assist in enhancing the historic and robust Hill Humanities curriculum, which provides AP English credit at the fifth and sixth form levels. Expectations include outstanding classroom instruction, active engagement in multiple academic departments, strong communication with students and parents, and academic and personal advising to an assigned student group.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Ideally, a successful candidate will possess prior experience in teaching English and/or another of the humanities disciplines. The Humanities teacher will also be expected to undertake responsibilities normally associated with a boarding school, such as serving on various school committees and participating in the school's co-curricular and residential programs. Experience and demonstrated success working with diverse student communities is preferred, but not required. A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred. Start date for this position is August 2024.
