Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Develop mineral reserve and resource models for estimating reserves and resources. Compile and interpret geologic and assay data to generate ore-waste boundaries and facilitate efficient active mine operations. Responsible for mentoring and/or supervising mine geologists. Assist other senior geologists with integrating geological data into grade control programs. Under the direction of the Chief Geologist, responsible for mine geology and/or exploration duties as required.
1. Monitor and report on QA/QC programs. Perform database compilations and validation for blast hole and exploration drill datasets on a regular basis.
2. Interpret geologic data to develop resource models in collaboration with mine and exploration geologists.
3. Conduct, validate and report resource estimations in alignment within required timelines, guidelines, and standards.
4. Classify resources according to company guidelines, including quantification of estimation quality parameters.
5. Work with Mine and Exploration Geologists to develop optimal drilling and sampling programs to improve resource understanding and upgrade resource classification.
6. Construct and maintain reserve and resource models.
7. Conduct or review periodic reconciliation comparison between models and mine production.
8. Mentor and/or directly supervise mine geologists.
9. Communicate with and assist Mine Planning, Metallurgical, and Mine Operations staff with geologic information to ensure efficient mining and processing operations.
10. Work with Mine Planning and Metallurgical staff to develop geo metallurgical models to optimize geological impacts on plant processes.
11. Assist Exploration team with modeling support.
12. Identify and implement new technologies to improve resource modelling and estimation performance and reconciliation.
13. Pro-actively engage and mentor team members to ensure sustainability of resource modelling and estimation capabilities.
14. Maintain accurate records and files.
15. Demonstrate consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
16. Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
17. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
18. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
19. Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
20. Perform other duties as required by Chief Geologist.
1. Employee must possess advanced technical skills in geology and have advanced knowledge of ore deposit modeling, resource estimation and reconciliation
2. Master of Science degree or higher in geology, geological engineering, or related field is preferred.
3. Minimum of 5 years experience as a mine or exploration geologist with experience with geologic modeling and resource modeling.
4. 2 years supervisory experience in open-pit operations, preferred.
5. Experience with field geologic mapping, preferred.
6. Must have a sound background in sampling theory for gold and assay techniques.
7. Skill with computers utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
8. Skill in 3D modeling software. Knowledge or skill with acQuire, Leapfrog, MineSight, and Vulcan software preferred. Python or other coding language skill preferred.
9. Demonstrated resource estimation and modelling experience across multiple operations, and preferably multiple commodities.
10. Post graduate grade estimation education, preferred and/or 3 years estimation experience essential.
11. Minimum 3 – 5 years resource classification development and analysis experience
12. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop team
13. Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive in active mining traffic.
14. Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
15. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
16. Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
