Job description

Controller needed for Personal Care Products Manufacturer in Commack, Long Island. Salary $175k plus bonus/medical/dental/401k package. Full time, in office role. 7 years minimum of manufacturing experience.

Position Summary:

Key member of the leadership team who collaborates with the General Manager, and management team to explain results, recommend improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, and lead the spearhead financial analyses.

Monitors and implements internal controls (aligned to Corporate Policy) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, the safeguarding of company assets, and the identification of potential business / financial risk.

Responsible for the month end closing process and associated KPI reporting, the development and maintenance of standard costs, manufacturing variance analysis, inventory accounting, and the planning and coordinating of the plant financial forecasting & budgeting process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Month End Closing Process

• Lead the daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting.

• Review and analysis of AP AR aging to ensure timely collection and payments.

• Responsible for the integrity of the month end closing process.

• Responsible for full set of balance sheet accounts reconciliation for month end.

• Assist with the development of an internal controls mindset across the organization including process flows, control matrices and standard operating procedures.

• Responsible for full set of balance sheet accounts reconciliation for month end.

Financial Analysis

• Lead monthly Financial KPI reporting.

• Lead the financial forecasting process and associated analytics.

• Margin management/Pricing – partner with the commercial organization to provide costing/margin perspective for appropriate pricing decisions.

• Lead the development of the Annual Financial Plan.

Inventory management:

• Key control point on all inventory destruction for reporting and approval.

• Weekly inventory report and analysis for key stakeholders both internal and external.

• Perform monthly inventory reconciliation.

Costing support and control:

• Standard cost update and maintenance.

• Review exception reports to address any cost issues.

• Costing model calculation and support.

• Estimate product costs to support quoting activities.

• Work order review to investigate any variances and correction for closure.

Experience/Skills/Specific Knowledge/Education:

• 7-10 years’ strong general accounting, cost accounting, and financial analysis experience in a similar position/manufacturing.

• Demonstrated expertise in MS Office and JD Edwards financial software is a plus.

• Good planning and organizational skills.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Experience in handling multiple concurrent tasks and meeting strict deadlines.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports.

• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries from the business.

• Ability to effectively communicate with management, public groups, peers, and staff.

• Excellent communication skills, internally and externally.

• Must demonstrate the highest standards of personal and professional integrity and character and promote ethical business behavior throughout the organization.

• Demonstrate appreciation of and sensitivity toward a wide range of cultural and personal differences.

• Must be a team player and act cooperatively with the business.

• Demonstrate strong and pragmatic business acumen.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting / finance or related field.

Requirements for this role:

Do you have hands-on experience in evaluating, calculating, and implementing standard costs – materials, labor and overhead rates, and evaluating machine speeds, crewing and scrap rates?

Have you built Bills of Materials and Routers?

Have you investigated variances to standards? Including purchase price variances and scrap variances?

(a “plus” for this role would be quoting) Have you had experience pricing new/existing SKU’s?
