The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kaweah Health (or "health system") shall provide oversight and direction to programs and activities that support the development of strong physician and administrative relationships. The CMO will be a member of Kaweah Health's senior executive team and report directly to the health system Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CMO will maintain a partnership with the Chief of the Medical Staff and the health system's Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
Experience
Required: Proven physician executive with a minimum of ten years clinical practice and three years executive leadership Experience in working with physicians from diverse backgrounds and perspectives in acute, ambulatory, chronic care, and preventive environments
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrates organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment with a high level of integrity and ethics.
Excellent skills in conflict resolution, oral and written communication, setting of strategic direction, and ability to lead teams.
Familiarity with quality, safety, and population health initiatives.
Essential Supports medical staff governance, including oversight of the medical staff office and functions which focus on the credentialing and privileging activities of the medical staff, bylaws, orientation of new physicians, and medical staff committees.
Coordinates medical staff clinical performance and recredentialing activity in partnership with the Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety, the Chief Quality Officer, and the (Medical Executive Committee (MEC).
Assists medical staff leaders in addressing communication, behavioral, and practice issues of privileged practitioners at Kaweah Health.
Assures timely and reliable communication of key matters to the medical staff.
Facilitates work of the medical staff in preparation for and management of physician activity associated with Joint Commission accreditation and other regulatory requirements.
Promotes physician/administration initiatives to increase physician engagement at Kaweah Health.
Provides advocacy and clinical perspective in support of the patient-centered mission, vision, values and strategies of Kaweah Health.
Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients and caregivers.
Serves as an integrating force who fosters alignment of the healthcare team to provide evidence-based, safe, high-quality and cost-effective care for the community we serve.
Responsible for integration and alignment of the medical staff, ambulatory care practices, quality and safety, peer review, credentialing, ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) activities and utilization and resource management.
Encourages communication between medical staff and administration in partnership with physician leadership (including medical staff officers, department chairs, and medical directors).
Works with medical directors to provide role clarity and metrics to monitor and evaluate their performance.
Works with medical staff, administrative leaders and others to create effective vehicles for physician leadership development and succession planning.
Supports health system efforts to recruit and retain needed clinical practitioners.
Participates in the strategic planning initiatives of the health system, including medical staff development needs.
Supports the development and growth of health system service lines and works with administration and physician leaders to improve clinical operations.
Participates in the development and management of the annual operating and capital budgets of the health system.
