The Center for Advocacy, Response and Education ( CARE ) is responsible for confidential advocacy and interpersonal violence prevention education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ).

The Advocate works to support survivors, as well as their allies, of sexual and relationship violence, stalking and sexual harassment within the UNL community. Under the supervision of the Director of CARE , the Advocate provides trauma-informed confidential services, referrals to campus and community resources and crisis response. The Advocate role will also include attending scheduled meetings at the University Health Center, University Police Department, Institutional Equity and Compliance, or other related appointments. While the Advocate's priority will be providing confidential advocacy, there will also be opportunities to work collaboratively developing, implementing, and facilitating various outreach, awareness and educational opportunities.

This includes:

• Trainings for students, faculty and staff
• Events recognizing Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Awareness Months
• Focused outreach and workshops to spread awareness of CARE and the services they provide
• Requests from campus partners for collaborations and trainings
• Working with undergraduate peer educators and various student groups

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or related field or equivalency.
• Two years experience working in an advocacy role supporting people impacted by power-based violence.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of serving students of diverse identities through culturally aware and responsive, developmentally appropriate approaches.
• Strong verbal, written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present information to key stakeholders.
• Ability to work as a team member to build stronger working relationships.
• Ability to manage a caseload.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines and immediate needs.
• Familiarity with the ethical standards for victim advocacy.
• Ability to independently make sound decisions based on best practices, laws, policies, and procedures.
• Strong crisis intervention and consultation skills.
• Ability to advise students, staff and faculty individually and in groups on complex matters and refer as needed to appropriate departments.
• Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
• Knowledge of best practices related to victim advocacy
• Commitment to on-going professional development and commitment to staying current in field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in social work ( MSW ), student affairs/higher education, sociology, psychology or related field
• Experience in college advocacy role supporting people impacted by power-based violence.
• Experience working in educational or prevention role with an emphasis in relationship and power-based violence.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with multiple agencies to aid in coordinating effective responses for clients.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to balance advocating for multiple clients, responding to crisis calls, scheduled client appointments and walk-in clients.
• Demonstrated experience working with sensitive and/or confidential information.
• Working knowledge of federal regulations related to campus-based legislation ( VAWA , Title IX, Clery Act).

Posted Salary: $50,000/yr minimum
