BWX Technologies is seeking a Night Shift Plant Manager to join our team in Mount Vernon, IN!
- Assumes responsibility for the effective operation of the plant during the absence of the Operations Director, the General Manager, or other members of Staff, as appropriate while those individuals are not on site.
- This position will be responsible to provide leadership & oversight to all night-shift personnel. This will include: Operations FLM’s and their staffs, Quality Assurance/Inspection, Maintenance, Engineering, Material Services, Security, janitorial services, and others. This position could have direct-reporting responsibility for a portion of these employees.
- Directs all operations performed on the night shift.
- Maintain a strong safety culture on night shifts. Assure preparedness for incident responses.
- When possible, lead post-incident investigations (e.g., PIRT or Critique processes) for injuries, near misses, and unexpected events.
- Acts as a champion for all site initiatives to ensure the same level of alignment exists for night shift personnel as exists on day shift (safety initiatives, quality campaigns, efficiency improvements, OEE and continuous improvement).
- Maintains a strong awareness of plant operational metrics and ensures the night shift is working to support those metrics.
- Acts as a liaison to attain needed technical coverage to keep production running, whether this be through on-site resources or phone communication with off-site resources.
- Provides personal attention to any special work required by Project Management to expedite any particular aspects of given contracts or products.
- Serves as an alternate for the Operations Director while on night shift. Assures protection of employees, equipment and facilities in addition to proper evacuation and accounting of employees in emergency situations.
- Resolves cross department issues that may impact production.
- Maintains familiarity with shop flow electronic systems to resolve issues with impeding production.
- Maintains familiarity with plant priority list, assures job assignments and urgency align with the priority list, and maintain adherence to it.
- When necessary, verifies vendor certification requirements to authorize acceptance and unloading of shipments received on night shift.
- The Night Shift Plant Manager will be expected to check-in with Directors at the start of their shift to receive any pass-down notes, areas of concern, priority updates, etc. Feedback to the Directors is expected, regarding any matter of concern on the night shift (safety, quality, employee concerns, etc.)
- The Night Shift Plant Manager will be expected to conduct a turnover with Operations Unit Managers at the start of the night shift to receive pass-down notes and instructions. It is also expected that they ensure comprehensive turnover is given from night shift back to day shift each morning.
- The Night Shift Plant Manager will report directly to the Operations Director.
Job Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a business or technical field along with a minimum of ten years of related experience with a broad knowledge of plant operations and general business practice.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to effectively lead, coach and mentor employees is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally (both verbal & written) at any level within the organization.
- The ability to work a 2nd shift schedule with the flexibility to report at other scheduled times as business needs dictate is required. This could include early start times to overlap with critical day shift activities or sporadic weekend work as well.
- Prior continuous improvement experience is desired but not required.

The base salary range for this position in Indiana (US-IN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000.00 and $165,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
