Merriam Vineyards is a boutique, family-owned and operated winery located in the Eastern Hills of the Russian River Valley in Healdsburg, California. We specialize in Bordeaux and Burgundy-style, hand-crafted wines and control all phases of our wine production, from the farming of our grapes to wine tastings in our tasting room. Position Title: HARVEST INTERN

Reports to: WINEMAKER

Position Summary:
Merriam is looking for candidates to join our production team for the 2024 harvest. Under the supervision and direction of the Winemaker, interns assist in in all phases of wine production from fruit processing to barreling. This is an excellent opportunity to work in all levels of wine production as part of a small, tight-knit team. Interns will also gain direct exposure to farming and sustainability practices as well as laboratory work.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the Winemaker in all winemaking processes
- Clean and sanitize all equipment and facilities before and after use
- Process fruit, often multiple times per week
- Racking and pumping of juice and wine; moving hoses and equipment
- Making additions to juice and wine by direction of the Winemaker
- Learn to safely operation of a forklift to move equipment and stack barrels
- Coordinate lab sample pickup/drop-off under direction of Winemaker
- Operate crusher, presses, cross flow, filters
- Assist in equipment maintenance, repair hoses
- Assist in general farm work on property, including low-yield grape picks
- Participate in Winery sustainability efforts
- Learn about Merriam’s wines and their custom crush clients
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Skills & Requirements:
- Proficient English language skills required, both written and oral
- Strong interest and curiosity in winemaking
- Communicate effectively with skills in reading, writing, and basic math
- Team player with positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Great work ethic and attention to detail
- Must be able to work up to 7 days a week during peak weeks
- Previous experience working in winery production preferred
Additional Information:

Job Type: Intern / Seasonal
Pay: $18/hr-22/hr based on experience + overtime at 1.5x

Physical Demands:
This position requires high physical commitment, including continuous walking, standing, climbing, crouching, and crawling throughout the day. It requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds for racking and pumping of juice and wine and moving hoses and equipment in order to operate crush pad equipment. Interns will frequently be required to operate in confined or elevated areas in order to complete tank sanitization and punch-downs.
