Description
Under the direction of the Director of Patient Business Services (PBS), this position will provide analysis intended to improve collections for SIU Medicine, report errors, trend of errors, identify root causes, and create key performance indicators, for both SIU Healthcare and SIU School of Medicine (FQHCs), as it relates to the efficient use of financial and other resources. This position will apply analytical techniques; financial, economic, and decision-support theory; and long-range, comprehensive perspectives, to assist in the development best practice collection strategies, including, but not limited to Managed Care Medicaid and Managed Care Medicare, Commercial and other SIU Medicine contracted payers. This position will also provide support to and assistance in maintaining and updating the revenue cycle applications. The incumbent will also assist in examining and analyzing the athenalDX (CB) BAR and TES setup to help implement system changes for best practices and maximize user-efficiency . The ability to work in a collaborative manner with both technical and non-technical personnel is essential.
Examples of Duties
Financial Analyst - 45%
- Monitors and prepares monthly and quarterly analysis of all SIU contracted payers including self-pay patients, their performance via individual payer scorecards.
- Monitors and prepares monthly and quarterly analysis of all SIU practices/divisions, their performance via individual practice scorecards.
- Investigates variances and trends across multiple key performance indicators such as but not limited to charges, payments, write-offs, charity care, refunds, AR Days, AR trend, Aging AR etc.
- Assists in evaluating and addressing denial trends across all major payers and payer plans
- Performs annual analysis of collections versus expected reimbursement per major payer and payer plans
- Assist in performing analysis of write off trends per payer.
- Serve as financial analyst on projects as assigned by Director, and Assistant Directors
- Work in conjuncture with the Director, Managed Care and Provider Credentialing, internal SIU departments and potentially some hospital partners to perform financial analyses as requested
- Performs AthenalDX system updates, such as TES edits, dictionary updates, ETM updates etc.
- Performs data analysis through various tools such as Power Bl, Excel, or SQL queries, trains others to do same as needed.
Report Analyst - 25% - Work with Patient Business Service leadership team to provide daily, weekly, monthly financial trending reports as needed.
- Work with Patient Business Services leadership to provide denial trending reports as needed. .
- Works with Department administrators to help gather and analyze data on charges, denials, and other revenue related requests.
- Working towards goals set forth by leadership, helps identify the data-analytics problems that offer the greatest opportunities to the organization
Practice Management System Support - 25% - Assists with updates to Practice Management system regarding insurance FSC creation/correction, claim form creation/corrections, claim forms, Rulesets, and TES edit creation/correction. Visit management, FSC follow up questions, Plan Master Setup, FSC/Plan Master setup creation and updates
- TES Edit SQL logic creation and updates; communication of requests come from users throughout the school i.e. coding, follow up staff, department admins and staff, PBS admins
- Takes appropriate action to analyze and resolve complex problems; creates and maintains TES and ETM edits, familiar with SQL language, communicates system outages or issues with end users; notifies leadership as necessary when business impacts occur or are anticipated ; escalates problems to internal and external resources as required.
- Serves as a champion for all PBS Revenue Cycle Information Technology teams and initiatives; maintains a positive and professional attitude at all times while acting as a representative of the organization

Qualifications
- Any one or combination totaling four (4) years (48 months) from the categories below:
A. College coursework comparable to that in a field related to financial analysis/planning such as accounting, business administration, economics, finance, statistics, or a closely related field
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate Degree (60) semester hour(s) equals eighteen (18) months
- 90-semester hours equal two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hour(s) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- Master's Degree equals four (4) years (48 months)
B. work experience in developing financial or economic analyses, research designs, strategic plans, or data models.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional level progressively responsible financial work experience.
3. 2 years of experience in revenue cycle/practice/healthcare management with knowledge of billing processes.
