TITLE: Extension Associate in FFA Programs

DEPARTMENT: Land Grant Program

REPORTS TO: Chair, School of Agriculture, Community and the Sciences 

EFFECTIVE DATE: Position will Remain Open until Filled

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: 

The Extension Associate in FFA Programs position in the College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences in the the Land Grant Program provides technical assistance to agriculture teachers and others within the local school systems in a timely and professional manner. Responsibilities include: coordinating state level activities and events of the Kentucky FFA Association, assisting agricultural education teachers with program planning, and enhancement of FFA and SAE activities. Enhance and strengthen the professionalism and teaching abilities of the state’s agricultural education teachers to better meet the needs of students for the 21st century.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1. Provides technical assistance to agriculture teachers and others within the local school systems in a timely and professional manner. 

2. Coordinates state level activities and events of the Kentucky FFA Association, assisting agricultural education teachers with program planning, and enhancement of FFA and SAE activities. 

3. Network internally with all university faculty and staff as well as external agencies and organizations to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency in meeting the needs of the state’s agriculture teachers and agricultural education programs.

4. Continually train and be trained in all areas of education, agriculture and technology to enhance the state’s agricultural education programs.

5. Coordinate the year-round training, scheduling, and management of the state FFA officers, including overnight chaperoning at state and national events.

6. Educate and communicate with internal and external audiences about agricultural education and the FFA.

7. Promote work-based and experiential learning (SAE) as an integral part of a quality agricultural education program.

8. Work in unison with all local and state school administrators

9. Offer an array of professional development/in-service education opportunities for beginning, experienced, and non-certified agriculture teachers.

10. Regularly conduct a needs assessment of agricultural education/FFA students and teachers to identify their training needs.

11. Conduct and participate in meetings, conferences and other activities to network on behalf of Kentucky Agricultural Education and FFA.

12. Develop outreach programing with high schools working with FFA and junior MANRRS groups.

13. Establish methods and plans to promote programs and reach diverse and underrepresented audiences representative of the service area including Limited English Proficient individuals. 

14. Collect, enter, and analyze statistical data in relation to Kentucky FFA and junior MANRRS groups? .

15. Other related duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in a Agricultural discipline / relevant field study preferred but will consider other Master’s Degree applications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

• Excellent coaching and mentoring skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite of services (or similar software)

• Public speaking skills

• A valid driver’s license is required for travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

• Exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
