The preferred location for this position is in St. Petersburg, Florida or Orlando, FL; however, the hiring manager will consider any location in Florida if needed. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.
This position will be provided a commuter vehicle.
Job Summary
The Manager of Stakeholder Engagement is responsible for providing leadership and management for assigned employee positions, contractors, and consultants in Florida's infrastructure stakeholder engagement group, specifically supporting Customer Delivery projects . The position supports the Director of Stakeholder Engagement in developing and implementing strategic direction in support of infrastructure projects across Florida. The Manager will act as a technical resource and subject matter expert on public engagement policies, protocols, and processes.
The Manager will directly manage Customer Delivery projects, which includes being in the field on a regular basis. This position will also provide guidance and support for developing and implementing internal and external stakeholder engagement strategies in support of the region's reputational and financial objectives.
The role will work closely with Customer Delivery to achieve their objectives and align with the overall goals and objectives of the Company. It will help ensure the role of stakeholder engagement as the subject matter expert responsible for developing and implementing proactive outreach and communication strategies and identifying and addressing public impacts and issues on the projects. The manager will oversee and, when needed, facilitate the internal and external response and resolution of significant escalations.
The position maintains a broad understanding of the company’s planning processes, project development, project execution, and operations. The manager is responsible for ensuring support for all capital projects requiring public engagement. This includes workload assessment, resource assignments, monitoring, and reporting on projects.
The manager and their team will work in close coordination with key internal stakeholders, external partners, and cross-functional teams, including state and local government officials, large utility customers, agencies, key community leaders, environmental groups, special interest groups, and other interested parties. This requires close coordination with the business units and the state president’s organization. The Manager will develop and promote a strong working relationship between their team and Government and Community Relations and Customer Delivery.
Responsibilities
Manages and leads the assigned stakeholder engagement team, providing guidance, direction, and development, and measures overall success to meet short and long-term departmental and organizational goals. Includes hiring, training, and performance management
Manages assigned projects to include developing engagement plans, actively working with the project team and GCRM to identify project risks, implement plans to address/mitigate risks, manage public interactions, and escalations. Attends project meetings and is knowledgeable of the project management process, schedule and public engagement key milestones. Maintains public engagement documentation. This position works in the field on a regular basis with the project team doing walkdowns, pre-construction meetings and throughout construction.
Assists the director in the development of efficiencies, processes, and protocols necessary to manage and monitor work. Ensures their team is trained and effectively implements processes. Monitors and reports on their team's compliance and performance in this area.
Ensures execution of engagement strategies that support the successful implementation of capital projects and other assigned maintenance work and initiatives. This includes effectively assessing public engagement risk for projects and establishing sufficient plans to address or mitigate those risks. Ensures the team executes these plans in coordination and collaboration with other key internal stakeholders.
Identifies and guides the resolution of various issues, events, and escalations. Supports crisis communications and storm support activities. Oversees the development of plans to resolve issues to preserve/enhance community relationships and the Company's reputation.
Assists the director in developing internal messaging, response to information/data requests, and presentations for senior leadership. Educates internal groups on the public engagement function and strategies. Assists in the resolution of issues between internal groups.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
In addition to bachelor's degree, ten (10) years minimum of related work experience
In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND fourteen (14) years minimum of related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Prior formal management experience, including hiring, training and development, and performance management, ideally in the energy or similar industry.
Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, public relations, or related degree from a four-year college or university.
Experience in public relations, public affairs, community affairs, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications, or related areas.
Experience in electric utility business.
Project Management experience.
Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict resolution and escalations.
Presentation and facilitation skills to internal and external groups.
Working Conditions
This position works in the field on a regular basis with the project team doing walkdowns, pre-construction meetings and throughout construction.
Occasional participation at early morning, night, and weekend community meetings and activities.
Travel throughout the assigned territory and occasionally the state to support projects in the field.
Requires availability 24/7 for storm response or other issues/emergencies.
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed remotely and onsite after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to posted Duke Energy facility.
