POSITION TITLE:

Medical Program Subject Lead & Science Teacher

REPORTS TO:

STEM Department Chair

SUPERVISES:

N/A

FLSA STATUS:

1.0 FTE, Faculty

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Serve as lead instructor for all courses specific to the Medical Program and additional classes within science discipline as needed

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Subject Lead & Science Teacher:

1.       Establishes and maintains positive student-teacher relationships and learning environment. 

2.       Designs, plans, and implements curriculum and lesson plans for students in up to 5 class sections within the Medical and Science disciplines. 

3.       Advises, assesses, and teaches students; presents and reinforces learning concepts within Science & Medical-specific curriculum  

4.       Collaborate with colleagues in other departments to enhance interdisciplinary connections between Medical-specific courses and other disciplines 

5.       Liaisons and facilitates meaningful partnerships with Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and the Providence health system under the guidance of the STEM Department Chair and Head of School. 

6.       Coordinates, plans, and facilitates experiential learning opportunities for Medical Program students, including visits to the health care facilities and guest speakers. 

7.       Advises on and participates in decision-making regarding materials and equipment, including any repairs and replacements. 

8.       Guides student course selection and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources. 

9.       Provides timely feedback and academic support to students during regular class time as well as established availability during Office Hours and before or after school tutoring schedule. 

10.   Regularly monitors and communicates with student support team on student progress: student, parents, counselors, Med Focus Director, Deans, and Learning Specialist as relevant.  

11.   Maintains accurate and thorough records of students’ academic progress using the school’s Learning Management System (class sites) and Student Information System (grades). 

As Representative of Providence High School’s Medical Program:

12.   Promotes Medical Program and assists the STEM Department Chair and Admissions team in recruiting and networking with local schools and community groups. 

13.   Provides updates to the PHS Marketing and Communications team on opportunities to promote the Medical Program. 

14.   Work in conjunction with STEM Department Chair and Director of Summer Programs on Medical Program camps for both incoming and middle school students. 

As PHS Community Member:

15.   Participates in the life of the school through supervision and chaperoning duties.  

16.   Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.  

Academic courses specific to the Medical Program Subject Lead Instructor:

·       Introduction to Health Care (9 th grade) 

·       Genetics and Biotech (12 th Fall semester) 

·       Ethics in Health care (12 th , Spring semester) 

Potential additional Science teaching assignments based on area of expertise and level of interest:

·       Anatomy & Physiology 

·       Kinesiology 

·       Nutrition 

·       Neuroscience 

·       AP Biology 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Bachelors in Life Sciences (a Master's or higher-level degree preferred) 

·       Experience working in health care facilities or medical programs highly desirable 

·       Experience teaching College Board AP-level courses preferred 

·       Consistently reflect a values-based and mission-centered attitude while always maintaining a professional presence. 

·       Work efficiently and cooperatively with multiple teams. 

·       Solid critical thinking skills and organizational savvy. 

·       Ability to take a concept and frame it into actionable steps and outcomes. 

·       Ability to speak in public settings with multiple audiences. 

·       Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. 

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. 

SALARY RANGE:

$65,000 - $106,500
