Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director of Marketing & Communications, with a dotted line to the Assistant Director of Communications, the Public Relations Assistant supports various communications tactics involving content creation and media relations. This role supports the Director of Marketing & Communications; Assistant Director of Communications and PR Coordinators by providing tactical support focused on research, media list building and research; assistance in written work and reporting. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Assists public relations team with the development and implementation of comprehensive, strategic public relations plans for Youth Villages and its various services, programs and events.
• Monitors print and broadcast media for Youth Villages coverage and assists with organization and maintenance of digital clip files.
• Distributes electronically news releases and press materials (including but not limited to calendar submissions, news desks, etc.)
• Supports media relations efforts, including special projects and events.
• Prepares publicity and other department reports (such as quarterly board reports, media reports for campaigns, etc.) as requested.      
• Must have the ability to work collaboratively across various teams and departments to ensure integration and sharing of information.
• Proficient writer with the ability as needed to write copy for news releases, annual report and marketing communications materials at the request of manager or director; assists with editing and proofreading upon request; familiar with AP Style.
• Ability to interview families and young people and write stories for various uses.
• Ability to work collaboratively across various teams and departments to ensure integration and sharing of information.
• Skilled writer with the ability as needed to write copy, including PSAs, speeches, scripts, news releases and marketing communications materials at the request of manager or director; assists with editing and proofreading upon request; follows AP Style.
• Monitors Youth Villages coverage in the news media including digital, preparing monthly reports
• Sends daily media reports for Memphis Allies and news coverage lists
• Take notes and prepare agenda for biweekly PR team meetings
• Performs additional duties at the request of the director of marketing and communications or assistant director of communications

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in public relations or communications is required
• 1 to 2 years of experience in public relations/communications is required
• Previous internship experience may be considered as part of applicable work history 

Note: This is an entry-level position.
