Job description

Position Summary

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral (Research Associate) position available in plant biochemistry at Michigan State University in the laboratory of Dr. Peter K. Lundquist. We study the function and formation of plastoglobule lipid droplets of chloroplasts which are highly relevant to plant stress responses and play an active role in membrane remodeling and numerous lipid metabolic pathways.

Our recent results have demonstrated that the members of the ABC1K atypical protein kinase family are active protein kinases with unique regulatory features (doi: 10.1016/j.jbc.2022.101762). We are now initiating a five-year project to systematically investigate the functions and substrates of each the six ABC1K protein kinases of plastoglobules. The incumbent will develop expertise with in vitro kinase assays, phosphoproteomics, and other biochemical, microscopic, and genetic techniques towards this end. The post-doc Research Associate will be responsible for designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, participating in manuscript and grant preparation, overseeing and training other lab personnel. Candidates with demonstrated experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. The position will be initially for an appointment of one-year, renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Duties of the incumbent will include gene cloning and heterologous protein expression, protein purifications, in vitro assays, phosphoproteomic analyses, manuscript writing, and training of other lab personnel.

Michigan State University is one of the premier global plant science research institutes featuring over 150 plant-science faculty carrying out cutting-edge research. State-of-the-art laboratory, greenhouse, growth chamber, and field-based facilities are available, including a suite of award-winning core facilities.
