Job description

Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering - CO-OP Student

The Control & Autonomous Systems Engineering Group applies state estimation, feedback control, and machine learning / artificial intelligence technology to the development of advanced software- and hardware-centric systems. We work in multi-disciplinary teams to envision and create complex demonstration prototypes (primarily unmanned) and innovative solutions to solve challenging national security problems. Applications span a diverse array of operational domains and mission areas, such as space control, missile defense, communications and homeland protection. The group frequently supports all phases of project development, from concept generation and analysis, through foundational research and realization in embedded hardware, to system integration and validation.

Job Description

Under the guidance of MIT Lincoln Laboratory technical staff , the co-op student will participate in various aspects of autonomous systems development, including the design, development, and test of software algorithms and hardware prototypes. Projects may include pointing and stabilization of space optical payloads, small satellite state estimation and control, precision navigation of autonomous aerial, ground and underwater vehicles, coordination of teams of heterogeneous unmanned systems and basic research pursuing efficient human-robot interaction and teaming.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be pursuing a graduate degree in a relevant field, such as Electrical, Mechanical or Robotics Engineering, or Physics, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics. The candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills as well as past experience successfully working with small teams. Course work or hands-on research experience with controls, robotics, computer vision, and/or machine learning is desired.

 

 

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
