Essential Supervisory Job Duties:

1. Hires, orients, trains, and develops employees in their areas of responsibility.
2. Supervises and directs employee efforts in their areas of responsibility.
3. Assures that all employee performance is appraised objectively and timely.
4. Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline, and follows through accordingly.

Essential Specific Job Duties:

1. Performs all of the duties of the Welder/ Fabrication Supervisor as needed:
   1. Roll flat steel
   2. Fit-up tank shells
   3. Operate a sub-arc welding station
   4. Layout and plasma cut bungholes
   5. Weld airtight bungs
   6. Create fuel plumbing using blueprints and other design drawings
   7. Fabricate steel ladders, stairs, catwalks, containment boxes, platforms, brackets, etc
2. Connect and program fuel management systems and fuel dispensers
3. Maintains a working knowledge of all department operations, functions, machinery, etc.
4. Teaches and assures adherence to quality standards.
5. Teaches and assures adherence to safety standards.
6. Coordinates production with 2nd Shift and Weekend Supervisors.
7. Monitors the production schedule, prioritizes work, and adjusts staffing and production to ensure deadlines are met.
8. Notifies the Plant Manager when it is necessary to outsource work.
9. Coordinates the flow of raw materials to ensure continuous production.
10. Requisitions the purchase of supplies and equipment as needed.
11. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of the product.
12. Coordinates maintenance on welding and related equipment as needed.
13. Schedules employees in their area of responsibility, approve time off, and ensures proper staffing.

Production Supervisors have many duties, but the major one is ensuring the manufacturing process remains smooth and efficient by organizing workflows and monitoring staff. They direct, train, and assist lower-level manufacturing and production workers. More of their regular duties and responsibilities include:

• Supervising operations within a facility to achieve higher output
• Organizing training and educational manuals for the production team
• Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new hires
• Ensuring compliance with safety and professional standards within a facility
• Organizing, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks to meet production goals
• Evaluating various stations of the production operation to ensure optimum efficiency
• Maintaining communication between employees and senior executives to ensure procedures and policies are well-understood
• Ensuring the flow of raw materials and other resources

Production Supervisor Skills and Qualifications:
Given the complexity of this position, a good Production Supervisor is an individual who is able to coordinate and motivate multi-talented production employees in a factory. Some of the qualifications and skills they need to succeed in the role include:

• Knowledge of manufacturing tools and equipment

• Welder Certification (preferred)

• 3+ years of welding experience

• IT skills, especially using data analysis software

• Excellent organization, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic

• Ability to create and adhere to production processes

• Ability to write reports legibly and accurately

• Relevant training and certification in industrial production, engineering, or any related field

• Motivating, supporting, and providing guidance to production staff

• Ensuring all safety and health standards are met to keep an organization accident-free

• Communicating regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting production

• Evaluating machine resources to ensure continued production and minimal downtime

• Establishing a balance between increased productivity and reduced costs of manufacturing operations

• Setting productivity goals for each manufacturing team

• Developing workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality

• Ensuring adequate scheduling of staff
