Performance specification, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
Calibration and characterization of radiation from therapeutic sources and machines and their physical properties and arrangements
Development and maintenance of quality assurance programs for all treatment modalities, localization procedures, and computational equipment to assure that patients receive prescribed doses within acceptable degrees of accuracy.
Maintenance of all instrumentation required for calibration of sources, measurement of radiation and calibration of doses.
Maintains records of use of radionuclides for brachytherapy procedures. Assembles and prepares brachytherapy applications and interstitial sources; loads and threads sources, as needed. Returns sources to storage area.
First-order maintenance of treatment units in conjunction with the service technician.
Provision of documentation that radiotherapy and simulation equipment and sources meet accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
Development and management of Quality Control program. Provides routine quality assurance for treatment machines.
Functionally supervises and assists Dosimetrists in the calculation of treatment plans.
Development/evaluation of radiation safety program, including written procedures for the protection of patients, workers, and the public.
Protective shielding design and radiation safety surveys.
Collecting treatment machine data required for patient dose calculations, entering such data into the treatment-planning computer.
Educates the nursing staff regarding radioactive sources and safety.
Ensures that the physics department is in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations as well as the requirements for Joint Commission.
Other duties as assigned by management.

 

MS or PhD in Medical Physics or related field
Completion of a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency
Board certified by the ABR in Therapeutic Medical Physics
Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and best practices.
3-5 years of clinical experience
Experience with Linac-based SRS and SBRT
Experience with Linear Accelerators, Aria, and Eclipse
