The Senior Chemist provides technical support in method development, method optimization, method validation, and transfer to support R&D Product Development and other related projects as assigned. Performs testing and analysis of raw material, intermediate and bulk products to determine identity, purity, strength and composition. Supports peer data review and investigational testing as needed. Proficient with core Pharmavite methods for physical testing, wet chemistry and instrumental methods, with mastery of one or more analysis type (such as liquid chromatography, inductively coupled plasma, etc). Lead laboratory OOS investigations. Works independently to perform assigned test methods and investigational or project support with minimal oversight. The Senior Chemist reports to R&D Analytical Manager
Key Responsibilities
Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include:
Performs physical, chemical and instrumental testing as assigned on raw materials, bulk and finished products.
Performs instrumental analytical testing techniques such as HPLC, UPLC, IC, GC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS and similar.
Performs chemical testing techniques such as titration, FT-NIR, Raman, Moisture, dissolution, UV and similar.
Performs physical testing techniques such as density, specific gravity, LOD, particle size, tablet or fill weight, and similar.
Troubleshoots lab instrument and method issues, performing repairs or obtaining appropriate outside service. Maintains and calibrates laboratory instruments and maintains data files as required.
Supports development of new analytical methods for identity, purity, strength (assay) and composition to support New Product Initiatives (NPI). Executes protocols to ensure analytical methods are Stability Indicating to support product shelf life.
Provides technical support to ensure Pharmavite Standard Methods (PSMs) and Compendial methods used for analysis are fit for purpose and are suitable for intended use. Supports optimization of existing analytical test methods to support new products and post-commercialization changes, or to support lab efficiency.
Executes testing for Accelerated Stability and Long Term Stability Studies for shelf-life assignment.
Leads or supports Out-Of-Specification (OOS) for accelerated and long-term stability and in support of NPI
Supports validations and transfer of new and existing test methods to Quality Control Labs, both internal and external, to support product release.
Supports implementation of new analytical techniques and instrumentation in R&D and QC laboratories.
Supports revision of Pharmavite Standard Methods (PSMs) as needed. Reviews, updates and develops job instructions, procedures or methods as assigned.
Achieves and maintains mastery of one or more testing areas, able to serve as trainer for new and developing analysts.
Reviews and verifies lab documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to reporting.
Performs additional work outside normal schedule as required to support business objectives.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Capabilities & Skills Required
In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have:
A four-year college or university degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy or Biology or related science. Advanced degree a plus.
Three to five years related laboratory experience in a laboratory environment with in-depth knowledge and experience.
A competent knowledge of chemistry practice and theory including methods validation and use of laboratory equipment including but not limited to autotitrators, UV, FTIR, IC, LC, GC, Raman, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and computer-controlled dissolution tester. Some knowledge of conventional laboratory characterization techniques such as LC-MS, GC-MS, and NMR is a plus.
Competent skills in mathematics. Ability to statistically analyze and interpret data.
Some knowledge of Federal Regulations related to dietary supplements (21CFR111) and familiarity with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specific to dietary supplements.
Competency in safely handling hazardous chemicals.
Proficient in data entry and computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office). Knowledge of PLM, LIMS or similar systems is preferred.

Annual Pay Range
$81,488.00 - $122,283.00This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.
