Title: Elementary Math Specialist - Full Time
Position Description:
Brawerman Elementary School West is seeking an experienced, credentialed math specialist. The candidate should be a nurturing educator, supportive of the developmental needs of children Grades K-6 and prepared to introduce cutting-edge, best practices in all areas of the math curriculum. The Brawerman math specialist will provide intervention and support for students as well as opportunities for extension and enrichment within the math program. The math specialist will work directly with classroom teachers to develop lessons, materials, and classroom projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of current math programs including Everyday Math, project based learning, and Common Core standards as well as an ability to creatively communicate ideas to inspire mathematical thinking. This position is at our West Campus located at 11661 W. Olympic Blvd. in Los Angeles.
About Brawerman:
Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Reform Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) with two campuses. The original West campus was founded in 1999 in a modern facility located in West Los Angeles. The East campus opened in fall 2011 in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, adjacent to the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple sanctuary. Responsibilities:
- Provide curricular and instructional support to teachers for high achieving and gifted math students
- Design, implement, and develop curriculum for a math lab/class for high achieving/gifted math students
- Teach math in a lab or classroom setting to provide highly differentiated instruction for struggling and/or high achieving/gifted math students
- Oversee development and implementation of math interventions and supports for students
- Gather and provide resources for teachers to supplement the curriculum and ensure student achievement
- Help assess student strengths and needs through classroom observation, interpretation of data, and the evaluation of student work
- Maintain collaborative relationships with teachers that allow for the exchange of honest feedback and professional growth
- Contribute as member of school’s Instructional Leadership Team to evaluate curriculum effectiveness and to help create school’s professional development plan
- Plan, model, co-teach, and coach/debrief with teachers with the goal of improving student learning and teacher practice
- Provide support for Math Night, STEAM Night, or other campus mathematics initiatives
- Head coach Mathletes after school program
- Work closely with parents to assist students with math difficulties
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in mathematics or related field and/or teaching credential
- Master’s in Education (preferred)
- Relevant teaching experience from independent, public, private, or charter schools
- Minimum of two years experience
- Familiarity with NCTM and Common Core standards
- Campus leadership experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of relevant technology and mathematics curriculum
- Ability to coach, model, and build the knowledge and skills of classroom teachers
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Excellent oral, written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Reflective, creative, self-directed, and flexible
- Highest levels of professionalism
Compensation:
- $65,000 to 95,000 based on experience and qualifications
- Salary is based on employment from mid-August 2023 to mid-June 2024 paid over twelve months
