Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, coordinate the operational activities of the art laboratory facilities in support of the art classes, art programs and faculty.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare needed materials for demonstrations and general student use in classes including preparation of clays and glazes, for ceramic classes, and supplies for painting, drawing, and design classes.
- Prepare, load, fire, and unload gas, electric, raku, and pit-fired ceramic kilns.
- Supervise the operations and maintain inventory of supplies, tools, equipment repair parts as needed and install new equipment and develop procedures as necessary; for labs at both the campuses.
- Serve as the resource person to students and faculty utilizing the lab facilities.
- Manage the budget for the Art department, including record-keeping, balancing the budget, ordering materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise student employees.
- Supervise lab for safe and proper use of tools and equipment.
- Supervise the selection, hiring, scheduling, and payment of art models.
- Maintain and set up art lab computer equipment, including software, and assist students in using the computers as required.
- Assist in special projects and coordinate special exhibits at both on-campus and off-campus venues.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- An Associate's degree in Art or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Bachelor's degree in Art is preferred.
- Experience working with a variety of materials and equipment, especially gas and electric ceramics kilns, is required.
- One year of shop experience with hand and free-standing power tools is desirable.
- One year art studio lab assistant experience or equivalent is required.
- General office environment. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.
Additional Information: Supervision Received:
Administrative supervision is received from the Division Dean and/or a designated faculty member.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision is exercised over student employees.
HOURS: Monday - Friday - 9:00 am - 5:30 pm hours may vary due to the needs of the College
Salary: $46,789
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
