JOB SUMMARY
This job is in the Plant family (Department), which includes positions responsible for supervising or performing metals processing and distribution work. Work includes specialized equipment operation and/or supporting functions and requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations and the materials, facilities and methods employed by Phoenix Metals in metals processing and distribution
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Product Manager, develop programs by writing code to produce machined parts on computer numerical control CNC lasers. Set up, and operate CNC machines while maintaining quality and safety standards by performing the following duties:
- Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data in order to calculate correct part dimension for machines, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.
- Occasionally set up and operate CNC equipment as needed.
- Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced.
- Read Instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts being machined within specified tolerance.
- Wear proper safety equipment and comply with company safety rules at all times
- Make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat and tidy
- All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management
REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required
- High School diploma/GED required.
- Associate's degree in CNC programming, a computer-related field or a mechanical field preferred.
- Experience with Solid Works, TruTops Boost, ProNest, or NestingWorks preferred.
- Knowledge of fabricating and machining Aluminum, Stainless and Carbon Steel preferred.
- Quality system awareness preferred.
- Experience with the properties of common steel used in manufacturing preferred.
- Design experience preferred.
- Three years experience as a CNC Programmer programming with 2D/3D CAM/CAD software in a shop environment for multi-axis machining 2D & 3D projects required.
- Experience creating and mounting fixtures required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints required.
- Training in general safety awareness and practices required.
- Working knowledge of using calipers & micrometers required.
- Ability to fluently read and write English, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Intermediate to advanced shop math required.
- Proficient using a PC in a Windows environment required.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and co-workers required.
- Good problem solving and conceptual skills.
- Excellent communication skills to convey detailed instructions to the machine operators, and to communicate with customers and engineers regarding designs and drawings.
- Must have a proficient understanding of G-code and M-code programming .
Sedentary work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
