Job purpose
ACH Clear Pathways Artistic Program Assistant will assist the Multidisciplinary Art teacher during the operation of the out of school time program & Creative Camp. ACH provides opportunities to its students in dance, visual art, media art, fiber art and other mediums of art. This opportunity often requires additional hands-on, one-to-one, assistance. Our students range in age from 5 years old to 12. The candidate must be willing to work in a multicultural community located in the urban area of the Hill District of Pittsburgh. This position offers the program assistant the opportunity to develop and design art projects and submit them to the Program Artist to be evaluated and/or implemented.
This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week , 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Opportunities for growth expected as the organization grows.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist with the development and implementation of artistic lesson plans & enrichment activities with small and large groups.
- Attend regular staff meetings and professional development trainings
- Assist in set up and clean up daily
- Assist in the evaluation of youth by conducting surveys
- Assist in documenting program records. (Attendance, transportation, and outcomes are being documented and put into spreadsheet or database
- Maintain and supervise high school students who participate in the City Learn to Earn Works Program
- Assist with program events that may occur periodically during other than normal times. ( i.e. Quarterly Showcase of student accomplishments)
- Work closely with ACH staff and assist with event planning
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Interact with the students during artistic programs
- Work as a team with other program assistants and teaching artists to effectuate program outcomes for youth program
- Help students with homework and or projects
Qualifications
- A teaching certificate is not required; however, at least two years of relevant experience working with children is required.
- Candidates must be comfortable teaching school aged children specific mediums, techniques and skills. Program assistants must be knowledgeable in a variety of fine arts and/or media based artistic practices.
Extensive knowledge of ACH Clear Pathways is a benefit but not required, training will be available.

- Experience working with diverse communities
- Self-starter with strong initiative, commitment to innovation and ACH greater goals and mission.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Excel; PowerPoint
- Ability to learn database programs for program and client data
Minimum requirement of High School diploma or GED
Must be able to obtain an Act 33/34 Clearance from the State and FBI fingerprint
Working conditions
- Flexible schedule with ability to work occasional weekday evenings and Saturdays (As needed for programs and off-site events).
- Part-time schedule during the school year for out of school time is Monday through Friday: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- During the summer months, the Creative Camp schedule is Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Program assistants are expected to attend and participate in all field trips and weekly swimming with the children. This program is usually 6 to 8 weeks.
- The hourly wage for this position is $14.00 per hour.
- Since this is a part time position, no benefits attach to this position.
