Departmental Overview The Innovative Genomics Institute is a joint effort between the Bay Area's leading scientific research institutions, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco, with affiliates at UC Davis, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Gladstone Institutes, and other institutions. The IGI's diverse group of leading scientists have powerful interdisciplinary expertise. They conduct world-class research, driven by the real possibility of using genome engineering to treat human diseases, end hunger, and respond to climate change.
In addition to our scientific efforts, the IGI is committed to advancing public understanding of genome engineering, providing resources for the broader community, and guiding the ethical use of these technologies.
This role will provide critical support for the IGI-Danaher Beacon for CRISPR Cures: a unique academia-industry partnership aimed at designing, engineering, and advancing to clinical trials next-generation gene-editing-based therapeutic approaches for severe genetic diseases affecting children. The position will report to the Director of the IGI-Danaher Beacon and will be a key partner in the strategic implementation of preclinical goals for the two clinic-bound projects that comprise the Beacon. Responsible for project management duties in the biomedical sector to enable execution and harmonization across all program efforts (including a range of administrative workstreams) and ensuring timely progress toward Beacon milestones. The person hired will develop and maintain an operational infrastructure that enables cross-institutional collaboration between project leads at UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, UC Los Angeles, and key Beacon contributors at multiple Danaher Operating Companies such as IDT, Aldevron, Beckman Coulter, Leica, PNI, Cytiva, and others.

Responsibilities - Analyze research performance and track to the two projects' Project Plans and work with
- Assist in developing Beacon ways-of-work and ensuring consistent operational alignment with them, developing and overseeing new processes regarding ongoing operations of program.
- Serve as a key connector between leads of individual workstreams to ensure consistent alignment with Project plans.
- Working in close collaboration with the Beacon alliance manager from Danaher, ensure robust interconnectedness between UC workstream leads and their cognates at Beacon-participating Danaher OpCos.
- Resolve complex project issues involving representatives from all three UC campuses involved and Danaher Operating Companies.
- Coordinate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual teleconferences or in-person meetings ensuring optimal collaboration between Beacon teams, as well as cognate processes in communicating and collaborating with Danaher representatives on Beacon Joint Steering Committee and designated Beacon leads at individual Danaher Operating Companies.
- Analyze and coordinate spending of a substantial budget across multiple teams at three UC campuses.
- Assess total program spending and contribute to strategic deployment of program resources; this includes but is not limited to: interacting with workstream leads and HR to provide guidance regarding staffing, analysis of spending, and assist IGI administrative staff with coordination of budget allocation and reporting.
- Interpret, collate, and prepare technical data from workstream leads at all three participating UC campuses for reporting to the Beacon Joint Steering Committee.
- Conduct project analysis and provide project management process improvements including management and technical/operational support to the Beacon Director.
- Convey monthly financial reports (prepared by financial analyst) to the Beacon Director and quarterly reports to the Joint Steering Committee, and matching specific spending to specific tasks in the Project Plans of the two projects.
Required Qualifications - Mid-level project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Intermediate working knowledge of project management software.
- Comfort and familiarity with modern digital tools such as Google Workspaces, Zoom, etc.
Education/Training:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 2+ years of project coordination or management experience in the biomedical area
Preferred Qualifications - Knowledge of and/or ability to learn campus processes, protocols, and procedures.
Education/Training:
- MS or PhD in Biological Sciences or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $105,000.00 - $124,000.00.
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is exempt and paid monthly.
- This is a hybrid position, eligible for up to 30% remote capability.
