Job description
CAST Transportation is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate would process and manage all aspects of CAST's payroll. This entails the calculation of wages based on hours worked and administer payroll distribution. A minimum of 3 years Payroll experience is required. This role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, ability to handle sensitive data and familiarity with payroll systems. You must have great communication skills to interact with colleagues, management, and those that you are providing payroll payment to. The goal is to ensure that ALL employees on the payroll schedule receive the correct compensation in a timely manner and communication is complete throughout each payroll cycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of payroll processing
- Receive all needed information on hours worked for Drivers and hourly administrative employees
- Calculate the correct payroll amounts for each payee incorporating overtime, deductions, bonuses etc. with assistance of the computer system
- Process employee expense reports, garnishments, child support, and advances
- Benefit Management
- Process benefit payments to vendors and 401K contributions
- Responsible for input and maintenance of employee data files and benefits process and input weekly certified payroll as applicable
- Receive approval from upper management for payments when needed
- Prepare and execute pay orders through an electronic system or distribute paychecks
- Administer payroll statements to personnel either electronically or on paper
- Process employee multi-state payroll taxes and employee benefits payments
- Keep track of hour rates, wages, compensation benefit rates, new hire information etc.
- Address issues and questions from employees regarding payroll and benefits
- Prepare reports for upper management, finance department, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; BA in business, accounting or relevant field is a plus
- 3-4 years payroll processing experience as a payroll specialist or payroll manager
- 3-4 years multi-state payroll tax filing and procedures preferred
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
- Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and knowledge of relevant software i.e. Microsoft Dynamics - Great Plains, etc.
- Ability to receive and process confidential information
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to work independently, but also within a team environment
- Reliable and good work ethic
