This is a part-time position.
Job Summary:
The Assistant, Mail Services/Warehouse position is a part-time, non-benefited position that is responsible for assisting in the daily operations for Mail Services, Shipping and Receiving, and Warehouse Operations in a manner that provides efficient and effective performance. This position provides excellent customer service, a professional appearance, timely work and good communication skills to ensure a productive working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing and coordinating shipping, receiving, and delivery of mail, packages, freight and supplies. Duties include performing a variety of clerical tasks, data entry, and physical effort of maintaining a warehouse with minimal supervisory oversight. May require some work after normal business hours. Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
Compensation: $15.03 per hour.

Essential Functions: – this position is non-exempt, i.e., is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).
- Assists Shipping/Receiving, Mail Services, Courier Services, and Bulk Mail to ensure LCCC is provided with quality services in a timely manner
- Responsible for accountability of all goods received by the college in transit to departments on campus via delivery services
- Receives and inventories packages and freight received, delivers to all areas of campus Must verify materials received with appropriate purchase orders, noting discrepancies or damage and informing purchasing of same
- Provides excellent customer service by displaying a professional image to include neat appearance, proper hygiene and appropriate attire
- Participates in all duties as a professional team member, provides security and confidentiality of personnel information and equipment
- Provides excellent customer service by utilizing professional and effective language, communication and timely follow-through
- Notifies Mail Services Supervisor of any maintenance concerns for the capital investment of mailroom and warehouse equipment
- Must have valid driver’s license, and be able to meet college insurance carrier requirements
- Follows OSHA and college safety practices, regulations, and procedures
- Operate warehouse pallet jack and other non-motorized material handling equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Responds to emergency duties after hours when required
- Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Individual should have a basic knowledge of and ability to follow USPS regulations, services, and procedures (Domestic and International Mail Manual), as well as the requirements of private shipping/receiving carriers such as Federal Express and UPS
- Ability to use computers and familiar with software including word processing, spread sheets, and data bases
- Possess organizational skills and ability to perform detailed numerical work involving logs, reports, billings, invoices, and packing slips
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, some with legal and technical terminology
- Individual should have necessary communication skills in order to be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and customers
- Have a working knowledge of the college organization: personnel, departments and buildings
- Must stay current on college events that effect mailings, as well as applicable USPS, private carrier, and regulatory agency regulations and procedures needed to ship and receive packages and freight
- Skills in customer service; ability and knowledge to communicate clearly with a wide variety of people, in a one-on-one and small group setting
- Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast paced environment with deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with people; proven capabilities in establishing a professional rapport, with courtesy and tact, to accurately determine other’s needs, collect necessary information, and follow-through when required
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements; ability to learn, interpret and apply current pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations
Physical/Mental Demands:
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
- The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required for the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
- While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long work days, evenings, and weekends as needed
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform the essential functions. Team lift technique is required for lifts exceeding 50 pounds
- This position may require to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, squat, crawl, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, and extend arms over head
- The essential functions of this position require an employee to push and pull items using dollies and pallet jacks
- This position requires routine work in a warehouse setting, which can have high noise levels and can be dirty, dusty, and contain chemicals; appropriate precautions and procedures must be followed at all times
- This position required the ability to perform mathematical calculations for reports, logs, invoice/shipping document reconciliation and budget requirements
- The essential functions of this position require the ability to read, interpret, and implement changes in regulations, rules, procedures, and priorities
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds
- Work hours may need to be flexed to accommodate deadlines and priorities. Normal work hours are 11:00AM-3:00PM weekdays, not to exceed 79 work hours a month
Minimum:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
- Valid Driver's License required and be able to meet current college insurance requirements
Preferred:
- Two years of progressive work experience in performing mailroom and/or shipping/receiving operations
- Familiarity with and able to use mail metering machines along with computer hardware and software
