The Public and Nonprofit Management ( PNM ) program in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill a full-time benefits-eligible Visiting Assistant Professor position. Teaching and research expertise in areas such as collaborative governance, digital government, or behavioral public administration are desirable. Ability to teach general public management courses is essential.
This non-tenure track position is a full-time, 9-month appointment. Teaching responsibilities will include courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The standard teaching load for the position will be 3 courses per semester for a total of six courses a year. A successful candidate is expected to teach, continue their research, and serve on school and program committees.
The appointment commences for the fall 2024 semester.
Minimum Education and Experience: A Ph.D. in an appropriate field (e.g., public affairs, public administration, public management, public policy) or a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
The Public and Nonprofit Management program offers a B.S. in Public Affairs, a NASPAA accredited Master of Public Affairs ( MPA ), a PhD in Public Affairs, and a range of graduate certificates. The program was recently ranked by the U.S. News and World Report as the 3rd in Texas and the 56th in the nation.
We offer an interdisciplinary approach to education that integrates the traditions of public management, policy analysis, and decision science with the goals of training students to build, transform, and enhance institutions of governance in a complex and diverse society.
The degrees and certificates offered within PNM emphasize the integration and application of theory and practice, as well as student preparation for careers in city, county, state, and federal government; nonprofit organizations, consulting firms and in various capacities of public policy. Graduates have a firm understanding of human resource, organizational, and financial concepts that apply to professional areas within public and non-profit organizations.
The Public and Nonprofit Management program is in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences ( EPPS ). The school also houses programs in criminology and criminal justice, cybersecurity, geospatial information sciences, economics, public policy and political economy, political science, and sociology.
The school boasts a faculty of approximately 70 tenure-track scholars and enthusiastic teachers who bring their research into the classroom, engaging students in learning and discussion. The breadth of the research interests within the school provides many opportunities for cross-disciplinary research.
