The Coordinator, Health Education and Promotion provides direct delivery of health education initiatives to improve the health and well-being of Towson University students. The Coordinator fosters a healthy campus environment that supports student learning, academic performance, and retention.
Responsibilities and Duties
Programming planning, implementation, and evaluation:
- Plans, implements and evaluates evidence-based, best practice health promotion strategies, programs and activities to reduce student health risk behavior, prevent injury/illness, promote well-being, and improve health status.
- Responsible for programming on a variety of health topics including: sexual violence prevention, sexual health, healthy relationships, cultivating and maintaining wellness (nutrition, physical movement, stress reduction, sleep), and other primary health care topics.
- Supports Health Center and SHAPE signature programs such as Sex in the Dark, Welcome to TU, and trainings for new students.
- Ensures that all programming and outreach activities meet the needs of Towson University’s diverse student body.
- Uses an ecological, collaborative approach to health promotion as described in the American Collegiate Health Association (ACHA)'s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education.
- Uses peer education model where effectiveness has been demonstrated to provide health education to students.
- Works collaboratively with Student Affairs staff, as well as other campus departments and community agencies in the coordination, planning and implementation of programs and events.
- Incorporates evaluation methods, including student learning outcomes, into all programming activities.
- Responsible for booking space for events and trainings.
Health education resource:
- Keeps patient education materials and resources updated and available for staff and students.
- Provides consultation with students on health issues and resources available on campus and in the community.
- Works with and orients peer health educators, interns, and health education volunteers as appropriate to carry out health education and promotion activities.
- Supports well-being on campus by incorporating objectives and strategic priorities into programming, marketing, and evaluation of health education and promotion activities.
Marketing:
- Develops and coordinates social media marketing campaigns and special health-related events in collaboration with the Health Center staff, Student Affairs staff, and other campus departments and community agencies.
- Coordinates marketing initiatives for all Health Center services.
Other duties as needed, including but not limited to:
- Coordinates outreach activities with the Assistant Director of Health Education and Promotion and other campus and community partners on issues of joint concern.
- Serves on campus-wide and Divisional committees including the Sexual Harassment and Assault Prevention Education committee.
- Coordinates on-site events with community partners (STI testing with Baltimore County Health Department).
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree
- At least three years of college health, health promotion, or other health related experience.
- Knowledge of current and emerging college health issues.
- Understanding of theories and models of health promotion and behavioral change.
- Experienced in the design, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based, cost-effective, best practice health promotion programs.
- Proven organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to work as a team member and with a diverse population of colleagues and students.
Salary and Benefits
Targeted Hiring Range is $50,000 - $56,000 and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
