About the Job Working Title: R&D Data Science Project
Manager
Position Title: Research Professional 4 (8352P4)
The R&D Data Science Project Manager (PM) will primarily
support two types of projects within the Center for Learning Health System Sciences' (CLHSS): 1) service requests (typically smaller
projects) and 2) grant funded research (typically larger projects).
The service requests are research and development projects
requested by clients (e.g. physicians, MedTech startups), which are intended to support health care innovation. Service requests will often
require scope refinement and clarification before the project team is assembled and under your management. You will work with your team and
the client to manage scope, timing, and budget until the project's completion and closure.
Grant funded research and development is
often initiated by CLHSS members as the Principal Investigators (PIs) and will have you acting as the liaison between the research team
(e.g. RAs, post docs, co-investigators from multiple institutions) and CLHSS resources (e.g. data sources, compute access, regulatory
requirements, patient partners, etc.). You will be responsible for working with the PI to set up a project management structure that is
compatible with their goals and work style preferences. With the PI's grant aims and research approach as the foundation, the PM's
involvement should lead to more clarity about roles, responsibilities, and milestones, while also improving the quality of the science by
enhancing team communication, collaboration, and trust. In order to accomplish this you will draw on your previous experience in a technical
role and strong interpersonal skills as you will not be operating from a position with direct authority.
CLHSS is organized as a
matrixed organization. The PM will report to the Data Programs Manager and will be responsible for the management of service requests and
grant projects as assigned and will interface and coordinate work with IT, clinical, and academic stakeholders.
The PM will also work on
internal CLHSS projects, most often with the Innovative Methods and Data Science (IMDS) and Natural Language Processing/Information
Extraction (NLP/IE) leadership teams.
This position receives general guidance and requires the ability to work well independently
and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, technical, organization, project management, and communication
(written and oral) skills to guide multiple multi-disciplinary teams and ensure deliverables are timely and meet requirements. This position
also requires a high tolerance for ambiguity and the skill to develop clarity in a complicated system with multiple stakeholders. CLHSS is
committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in its staffing, operations, and research.
