Job description
Steampunk is seeking a Section 508 Compliance Specialist with an appetite for taking on new challenges.
You will support an active team that wants to be a part of maintaining and improving Section 508 Compliance and overall accessibility of a high traffic, high visibility site with a global audience. You’ll be responsible for supporting the team and our federal client in the advancement of the Section 508 compliance and accessibility. Additionally, you will leverage your solid and strategic understanding of both the manual and automated accessibility testing that is available for Section 508 compliance. - Perform Section 508 compliance testing on documents, surveys, and forms residing on premise or in the Cloud (i.e., SaaS) that focus on WCAG 2.2 standard compliance metrics and reporting.
- Use Section 508 compliance testing tools including Adobe’s Accessibility Checker, the PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC 24), Color Contrast Analyzer, and WebAIM for testing documents.
- Work with content owners, application teams, project managers, developers, and vendors in identifying and correcting Section 508 compliance defects.
- Participate in planning sessions with clients and team members in order to ensure that planned work includes necessary compliance and accessibility standards where appropriate
- Assist in facilitating Section 508 training to include how to create 508 compliant documents (e.g., Word, PDF, PowerPoint, etc.) and compliant content.
- Assist in developing educational resources such as tutorials and presentations in support of outreach and training activities for the Enterprise.
- Present or assist in presenting information about accessibility topics in various settings including, but not limited to, small briefings, seminars, symposiums, hands-on training, one-on-one situations, etc.
- Participate in planning sessions with clients and team members in order to ensure that planned work includes necessary compliance and accessibility standards where appropriate.
- For individuals with DHS Trusted Tester Certification: Use manual inspection techniques, assistive technologies, and automated tools for Section 508 Compliance testing of Web and software products.
- Periodically conduct assessments of large sets of websites for Section 508 Compliance.
- Use the Accessible Name and Description Inspector (ANDI), Web Accessibility Tool (WAT), and SiteImprove to perform 508 compliance testing, per DHS Trusted Tester guidelines.
Required
- Ability to obtain a public trust
- 3-5+ years of experience in Section 508 testing and compliance
- 3+ years of experience using Section 508 testing software such as PAC 24, CommonLook, axesPDF, Jaws, NVDA, etc.
- Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff
Preferred
- Active DHS Trusted Tester Certification
- Experience with Drupal or similar content management systems.
- Experience working compliance on large application with multiple business/content owners.
- Public Trust Background Investigation
