Job description
The primary focus of the Music Therapy Intern is to provide music therapy services to hospice patients and their families, under the supervision of a Board-Certified, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care. The Music Therapy Intern assesses patients/families, devises and implements an individualized treatment plan. Music Therapy Interns also support special programming, education, and marketing efforts to promote the agency's mission.
INTERN RESPONSIBILIES
- Adheres to AMTA National Roster Internship Guidelines, internship program personnel requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Adheres to AMTA Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics.
- Seeks feedback and clarification through regular communication with supervising music therapist and Music Therapy Coordinator.
- Reports non-compliance with AMTA National Roster Internship Guidelines.
- Maintains regular communication with the academic faculty, as indicated by the internship agreement.
- Completes a midterm and final "Intern Self-Evaluation" and final "Intern Site Evaluation."
- Requests a "Welcome to the Professional World" packet from the National Office at the mid-point of the internship.
- Completes required number of internship hours and duration of internship as stated in the Internship Agreement.
COMPETENCIES - Works well both independently and within an interdisciplinary group (IDG).
- Has a soothing singing voice, functional guitar and piano skills, and knowledge of other recreational instruments.
- Plays a variety of songs and genres for different cultures and age groups.
- Uses appropriate treatment techniques based on developmental stages and clinical need.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Handles time well and has organizational skills to effectively manage an average case load as determined appropriate by the Internship Supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Music Therapy Intern to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Has reliable transportation to patient's home or place of residence.
- Can carry up to twenty-five pounds of equipment and/or materials.
- Makes appropriate use of PPE as directed by Infection Control.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Has completed all prerequisite clinical education and training requirements for the AMTA National Roster Internship or University Internship position, from an AMTA accredited university or its equivalent, as required by the AMTA.
- Possesses a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
