VINEYARD SUPERVISOR
Job Description Merkin Vineyards, a family-owned and operated winery nestled in the heart of the Verde Valley, is seeking a meticulous, organized individual with a self-motivated and goal-oriented mindset to join our team as a Vineyard Supervisor. Position Summary: As a Vineyard Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our vineyards to ensure the production of high-quality fruit with optimal efficiency. In this position, you'll lead a team of skilled viticulture professionals and take responsibility for supervising a range of vineyard operations. This includes detailed vine work, tractor operations using various implements, and pesticide sprayers.
What You Will Be Doing - Supervise and ensure timely completion of all vineyard duties as directed
- Collaborate with Vineyard Managers and Viticulture Specialists on Vineyard Plans
- Maintain expertise in key vineyard operations and management functions
- Conduct competency & safety training for all Vineyard staff
- Ensure the safe, effective operation and maintenance of vineyard equipment, implements, and vehicles
- Promote and ensure compliance with all company Policies & Procedures
- Achieve all goals within the required budget levels
What You Bring
- Previous experience in a supervisory or crew leadership role
- Competency and understanding of -or the ability to quickly and confidently master- the safe operation of vineyard equipment, pruning, canopy management, integrated pest management, harvesting, and irrigation management
- An open mind; we farm in a unique region with a unique set of challenges
- Fluency in Spanish; proficiency in English is an asset
- Familiarity working in a cross-cultural environment
- Demonstrated successful problem-solving abilities (both people and technical)
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Physically fit and able
- Ability to work the seasonal demands of the vineyard, including occasional evenings, night harvests, and weekends.
- Preferably, but not strictly required, you will have 3-5 years of viticulture experience and/or post secondary education in Viticulture, Fruit Science, Plant Science, or Horticulture Science.
