Greenville Drive Organization Overview

The Greenville Drive relocated to Greenville, SC in 2005 and had its first season in Greenville's West End stadium in 2006. The team is a High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and members of Minor League Baseball's South Atlantic League. The Drive's Red Sox affiliation has been in place since 2008. Before the team relocated to Greenville, the team played in Columbia, SC and were known as the Capital City Bombers. The Drive play at Fluor Field in Downtown Greenville - a mini replica of iconic Fenway Park - complete with its own "Green Monster" and manual scoreboard in left field.

In its inaugural season in 2006, the Drive received Ballpark of the Year recognition, beating out all other newly constructed stadiums across minor league and professional sports. In 2008, the Drive's stadium was officially renamed "Fluor Field" after the Drive announced a naming rights agreement with Fluor Corporation - a global leader in engineering & construction. Each year Fluor Field hosts 66 Greenville Drive baseball games and 30-35 amateur baseball games. In addition, under the year-round West End Events brand, Fluor Field hosts our community's highest profile events including Artisphere, Euphoria, Imagine Upstate, and many others. The Drive's contributions to Minor League Baseball and, more specifically, the Greenville community was recognized by being awarded the John H. Johnson Award in November 2017. This award is considered the highest organizational achievement in Minor League Baseball and is given to the team that demonstrates a commitment to the community, operational excellence, and overall franchise stability.

For over 18 years, the Greenville Drive has created a highly visible and widely embraced community engagement platform at Fluor Field, reaching over 1 million ballpark guests and digital followers across the Upstate of South Carolina each year. This broad-reaching platform provides the Drive the opportunity to position itself as a community entity that businesses and community organizations alike can utilize to achieve critical tangible & intangible objectives. Working closely with the leading corporations, associations and community-based organizations that shape the quality of life in the Upstate, the Drive has formed strategic partnerships that positively impact a variety of critical initiatives. From Education to Entrepreneurism, from Youth Leadership to Healthy Living, and from Regionalism to Workforce Development, the Drive has creatively and continuously leveraged the community engagement platform that is Fluor Field to positively impact these and other key quality of life drivers.

Furthermore, West End Events is a department within the Greenville Drive that is charged with managing and executing first-class events, mostly on non-game days. Fluor Field is the home to numerous venues that are capable of hosting events from 10 guests to as many as 7,000 guests. West End Events represents a rapidly expanding department within the Greenville Drive with ample opportunity for growth. A variety of events are hosted at Fluor Field each year, including but not limited to, corporate board meetings and functions, wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners, large community/city events, concerts, philanthropic events, and more.

Position Summary: Merchandise Manager

The merchandise department is a critical aspect of the Drive's business, growing in importance every season. In addition, prior to the 2017 season, the Drive completed over $15 million in ballpark renovations, including a complete redesign of the Team Store and integration of a state-of-the-art retail point of sale system. Fluor Field has positioned itself as one of the most unique and fan-friendly ballparks in all of Minor League Baseball, as evidenced by being awarded the 2017 Best Ballpark Renovation award by Ballpark Digest .

As the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, the Greenville Drive is primely positioned for success via both in-store and online sales. The Drive's Team Store - the Firehouse - is open year-round and located directly outside the gates of the ballpark on Greenville's award-winning Main Street. As the manager of the Drive's merchandise department, this individual will be responsible for operating all on-site locations, scheduling and training staff members, and maintaining appropriate inventory control. As Greenville is one of the fastest growing cities in America, there is ample opportunity to develop and grow personally and professionally in this unique position.

Job Description

The Merchandise Manager is a critical member of the Drive team, responsible for executing all day-to-day functions of the Drive's various merchandise locations. This individual will report to our Director of Merchandise and will seek to maximize the potential of the Drive's merchandise business by positioning the Drive as one of the leaders in all of Minor League Baseball. The following descriptions are all measures of what success will ultimately look like in this position:

1. Strategic Planning & Execution

    1. Assist in executing a year-round calendar of activities that drive individuals to the Team Store or Drive sponsored events, especially during the off-season. The Drive's Team Store should be managed to maximize our relevance in the community on a year-round basis.
    2. Assist in the execution of all online sales, including pulling, packaging, and shipping all product from the Greenville Drive Team Store. This also includes working with various individuals within the organization to promote product via our website and social media platforms.
    3. Keep the Team Store organized and easily accessible to provide a seamless shopping experience for our customers.

2. Talent Management

    1. Lead all staffing needs related to the Drive's merchandise business. This includes direct oversight of the existing hourly staff in addition to appropriately staffing all 66 Drive home games, amateur baseball games, special events and non-gameday staffing needs.
    2. Ensure smooth and streamlined shared resource management across all Drive departments for merchandise purposes (e.g., Finance/Accounting, Sales team integration, Marketing/Sponsorships, etc.)

3. Merchandise Reporting & Financial Performance

    1. Assist the Drive's Vice President of Finance and Administration and Director of Merchandise to manage a merchandise tracking document that helps track daily sales and financial performance. This tracking document should outline the financial performance of in-store vs online sales, gameday vs non-gameday sales, and other relevant metrics to track against the overall Greenville Drive annual budget.
    2. Conduct periodic physical inventory counts on all merchandise products on-hand.
    3. Manage and operate the Greenville Drive's merchandise point of sale and inventory management systems, including receiving new product into the system, keeping an updated receiving log, tagging products with appropriate UPC labels, and recording daily sales transactions.
