Job description

Viterbo University's Theatre and Music Theatre Department, a rigorous, nationally recognized BFA program with 100+ active majors, invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Musical Theatre, beginning August 2024. This position is part of our Conservatory for the Performing Arts: an initiative born of the belief that the world needs artists and storytellers now more than ever. Our goal is to cultivate artists grounded in the liberal arts with a strong sense of self, a commitment to the common good and the skills to succeed at a professional level in the demanding performing arts industry.

Coursework will include Musical Theatre Scene Study, Musical Theatre Performance (Lab) and the potential for History of Musical Theatre. Additional courses may include Audition/Business of Theatre, Showcase, Acting Scene Study, Introduction to Directing, Verse Drama, and/or Improv (depending on specialty areas of experience and interest). The successful candidate will also direct at least one musical or play in our production season each year.

General Requirements/Qualifications: MFA (or BA/BFA with significant professional equivalency), collegiate-level teaching experience and the ability to work collaboratively are required. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to stage direct large musicals, performance credits in major markets, and considerable experience in recruiting for a competitive BFA musical theatre training program.

Rank and Salary: Appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor depending on qualifications, experience, and educational background. Nine-month academic year appointment beginning August 2024. Salary is competitive with other private, liberal arts institutions of similar size.
