Job description
The Engineering Education Department (EED) at Utah State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. This is a nine-month academic-year appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate in an engineering discipline, engineering education, cognitive science, education, or psychology by the start of the appointment. Candidates must also have a B.S. and M.S. in an engineering discipline. The ideal candidates are expected to demonstrate potential to develop a strong and externally funded research program in engineering education, a track record of peer-reviewed publications, potential or record of teaching competency at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and evidence of professional leadership skills.
Post-doctoral and/or teaching experience is highly desirable.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Demonstrate excellence in establishing a strong and externally funded research program in engineering education.
• Effectively teach undergraduate Engineering Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, or Fundamental Electronics for Engineers courses as well as graduate courses in the Department’s Engineering Education Ph.D. and M.S. programs.
• Serve as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students on their research activities.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the department, university, and community service.
Required Qualifications:
1. A doctorate in an engineering discipline, engineering education, cognitive science, education, or psychology by the start of faculty appointment (August 1, 2024).
2. B.S. and M.S. in an engineering discipline.
3. Ability to conduct and disseminate research in engineering education.
4. Ability to write competitive external grants to support scholarly activities.
5. Ability to teach undergraduate Engineering Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, or Fundamental Electronics for Engineers.
6. Potential or record of success in effective teaching experience and mentoring.
7. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Potential or record of success in obtaining external funding.
2. Record of peer-reviewed journal publications in engineering education research.
3. B.S. from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
4. Previous experience teaching undergraduate Engineering Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, or Fundamental Electronics for Engineers.
5. Potential to collaborate with existing EED faculty members on externally funded projects.

The Engineering Education Department is one of five departments in the USU College of Engineering (). The Department offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Engineering Education program since 2009 and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Engineering Education program since 2021. Our faculty teach college-wide, large-enrollment undergraduate engineering fundamentals and technical communication courses, as well as graduate courses in our graduate programs. Graduate and undergraduate students work closely with our faculty on various research projects in six broad areas including broadening participation in engineering, engineering learning and problem solving, engineering workplace and training, K-12 STEM education, online engineering education, and technology-enhanced learning.
