SUMMARY
Actors' Equity is a national labor union of professional actors and stage managers working in live theatre, founded for the purpose of negotiating strong agreements that protect the wages, hours and working conditions of its members, enforcing those agreements, organizing new work opportunities for members and pursuing appropriate legislation on matters affecting their profession. We represent the belief that the art of theatre is an essential cultural and economic component of our society. We are hiring an Organizer! This position will support the organizing department by developing and implementing organizing drives and growth campaigns. Working with staff and members, this role will be essential in moving members to take action during strategic moments in a campaign. This position is based in Chicago, IL and is currently hybrid; work hours are 9a-5p CT. Weekend and evening work may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identify best practices and develop tools for member engagement and union-building.
• Identify, recruit, train and develop leaders.
• Work collaboratively with member leaders and fellow staff to further union goals
• Mentor and support member leaders in their union duties
• Serve as secondary staff for the Organizing Committee
• Serve as staff lead for growth campaigns and new organizing initiatives.
• Manage various member events to ensure they meet established benchmarks and align
• with broader organizational goals.
• Occasional work on other campaigns throughout the organization, including growth campaigns, as needed.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

• At least one year of experience in labor, political or community organizing.
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to move individuals and groups of workers to action around shared goals
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Motivated self-starter who takes initiative and is also a solid team player
• Strong personal planning, organizational and time management skills, including ability to discern priorities when faced with many important tasks
• Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
• Computer skills (in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, online platforms like Teams, peer-to-peer texting, database software)
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and union values.
• Experience in or passion for Theater a plus

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

• Work in a hybrid home/ office environment sitting at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time.
• May occasionally require long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
• May travel for work assignments.

• Salary is $65,000/annually.
